Tony Wagner, author of Creating Innovators: he Making of Young People Who Will Change The World, stated “”The world doesn’t care what you know, but what you can do with what you know.” Schools need to reflect these changes. Blended Learning Model Definitions. The definition of blended learning is a formal education program in which a student learns: at least in part through online learning, with some element of student control over time, place, path, and/or pace;at least in part in a supervised brick-and-mortar location away from home;and the modalities along each student’s learning path within a course or subject are connected to provide an integrated learning experience.

The need to design and develop a course that is “learning-centered”, where the focus is on the learning that needs to take place, is paramount. In an online learning environment you as the teacher do not have the visual cues, relationships or feedback from your students. Below is more information on the “learning-centered” approach. Weimer (2002) described five learner-centered practice areas that need to change to achieve learner-centered teaching: the Function of Content, the Role of the Instructor, the Responsibility for Learning, the Processes and Purposes of Assessment, and the Balance of Power.
