Fukushima report declassified: Worse than we were told

A new declassified report from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, written on March 18, 2011 just days after the disaster, sheds light on just how bad it was. We now know that "100% of the total spent fuel was released to the atmosphere from unit 4. " According to nuclear expert and whistleblower Arnie Gundersen in an interview with WBAI in New York, unit four contained more cesium "than in all 800 nuclear bombs exploded above ground". Cesium has been linked to thyroid cancer, which is on the increase in the Fukushima area since the tsunami, according to the US National Library of Medicine. The chemical is highly soluble in water and can find its way into foodstuffs that have been prepared in contaminated areas. Engineers at Fukushima are still dealing with fallout from four years ago. Russia 'is building military base in Syria'

President Barack Obama and King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia speak to the press pool prior to a bilateral meeting between the two leaders Photo: Rex John Kerry, Secretary of State, telephoned his Russian counterpart to express US concerns on Saturday. "The secretary made clear that if such reports were accurate, these actions could further escalate the conflict, lead to greater loss of innocent life, increase refugee flows and risk confrontation with the anti-Isil coalition operating in Syria," the department said. The new US details came in the week that Vladimir Putin gave his strongest admission yet that Russia was already providing some military and logistical support to Syria. “We are already giving Syria quite serious help with equipment and training soldiers, with our weapons,” he said during an economic forum in Vladivostok on Friday, according to the state-owned RIA Novosti news agency.

A team of Microsoft researchers led by Seny Kamara claims to have been successful at recovering a substantial amount of data from health records stored in CryptDB (PDF), a database technology that uses layers of encryption to allow users to search through encrypted data without exposing its contents.

MS researchers claim to crack encrypted database with old simple trick

CryptDB was originally developed at MIT. It functions as an addition to a standard, unmodified SQL database and is intended to allow applications to interact with encrypted data using Structured Query Language. By using layers of encryption, CryptDB can allow certain properties of data to be revealed to applications processing the queries while keeping the data itself protected. In theory, the encryption prevents the database administrator (or anyone who attacks the database by gaining trusted access) from being able to view the contents of the database. AB ‘Buzzy’ Krongard, who as executive director occupied the third-highest role in the Central Intelligence Agency, told the BBC on Monday, “It’s hard for me to think that they didn’t, they’re professional intelligence people, I mean obviously.” Krongard was executive director between 2001 and 2004, during which time rendition flights were passing through the Diego Garcia airbase which, although leased to the United States military, is a British territory. Intelligence documents found during the fall of the regime of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 also indicate that during the same period a pregnant woman and four children were ‘rendered’. That case in currently being investigated by Scotland Yard, and a civil case will be heard before the Supreme Court this autumn.

Human rights groups, however, contest that decision. ISIS terrorists execute 10 prisoners by forcing them to kneel on landmines. Islamic State jihadists have resorted to a new way of executing their prisoners, killing 10 men by forcing them to kneel on top of explosives buried just underneath the soil and blowing them up simultaneously.

ISIS terrorists execute 10 prisoners by forcing them to kneel on landmines

The terrorists filmed the execution in detail, including footage of ISIS henchmen preparing the execution site. The footage shows them planting a number of wired explosives beneath a thin layer of soil on sloping ground, lined up in a row. Then the militants, not even hiding their faces, bring their blindfolded victims to the execution site. The 10 prisoners are forced to their knees, each one above a visible mark of freshly excavated soil. After the jihadists took photos with black flags near the victims, the executioners run away to avoid being injured by the series of explosions. The moment when the explosions take place is not shown in the video. The victims are believed to be from the Shinwari tribe in the Afghan province of Nangarhar.
