Clouds Are Not Spheres: A Brief History of Fractals. History of Fractals, Fractal History | Motiv Designs. Fractals - The Beginning The history of fractals dates back to 1975, when Fractals were discovered by Benoît Mandelbrot. Well, maybe not discovered, but finally put into words. He explained them as being geometric shapes that when divided into parts, each part would be a smaller replica of the whole shape. He came up with the term "Fractal" as the new scientific term for this mathematical expression. The word is actually an adaptation of the Latin word fractus. The latin word fractus means "broken" or "fractured".

The concepts behind fractals had been around for centuries but it was not until Mandelbrot had his realization that these great mathematical masterpieces were discovered. Mandlebrot Fractals Mandlebrot fractals were discovered first, so they were the most well known fractals. Julia Fractals Julia Fractals were discovered by Gaston Julia and praised by Mandlebrot after his discovery. Newton Fractals Newton Fractals were derived from "Isaac Newton's method". ► Fractals: history/formula/definition/meaning/Mandelbrot Set Generator. NOTE: This Mandelbrot explorer has an end because it is only for demonstration purposes. This Mandelbrot Explorer does not even remotely come close to fully representing the power and vastness of what Fractals can do and really are in mathematics (geometry).

History of fractals The Mandelbrot set--named after the man who accidentally discovered and coined the term "Fractals" in the early 1970's--is one of the most beautiful and profound discoveries in the history of mathematics. Not since Pythagoras and the Greeks (circa 600 B.C.) who documented all their mathematical breakthroughs has there been such a revolutionary discovery. After his discovery, Benoit Mandelbrot used the Latin term "fractus," which means broken or irregular, to name fractals and called the new science the term "Fractals" because of the abstract fractional characteristics the formula produces. The Mandelbrot set illustrates self-similarity. As the image is enlarged, the same pattern re-appears so that it is virtually impossible to determine the scale being examined. Figure 1b. The same fractal magnified six times. Figure 1c. The same fractal magnified a hundred times. Figure 1d. Fractals are distinguished from regular geometric figures by their fractal dimensional scaling. As mathematical equations, fractals are usually nowhere differentiable.[2][5][8] An infinite fractal curve can be conceived of as winding through space differently from an ordinary line, still being a 1-dimensional line yet having a fractal dimension indicating it also resembles a surface.[7]:48[2]:15 There is some disagreement amongst authorities about how the concept of a fractal should be formally defined. Introduction[edit] This also leads to understanding a third feature, that fractals as mathematical equations are "nowhere differentiable".

History[edit] Figure 2. Figure 3. Characteristics[edit] Ricky Jarnagin - Fine Art. Years ago I used to think I was pretty good with Gimp. But then as I started really looking around at other peoples creations, I realized just how much I didn't know! So I joined deviant art in an effort to show off my skills, even though they were inadequate and to learn from those that had the skill level I wanted to be at. Then I discovered fractal art. I was blown away by the variety and complexity of what I saw. That is when I was introduced to Mandelbulb 3D.

I knew I just had to learn how these people were making these fantastic images. There are lots of fractal programs out there but once I started using Mandelbulb 3D I was hooked, addicted really. Thanks for stopping by! Pdfartworkmenu.php (application/pdf Object)
