When we first covered the emerging field of lovotics, the science of human-robot love, we had no idea that it would turn out to be one of the most popular stories ever published on ExtremeTech.
It seems, as a culture, we have a deep-seated interest in robots and automatons, and if we can love an animal or other non-humanoid creature, what’s to stop us from falling in love with a robot? And if you had the choice of falling in love with an amorphous, decidedly odd-looking furball, or a cute, perky anime girl, which would you choose? Introducing Meka Robotics’ S2 Humanoid Head: It has seven degrees of freedom, high-resolution FireWire cameras in each eye, zero-backlash Harmonic Drive gearing in the neck, and a ton of unnervingly-human movements and postures. She weighs 7.6kg (16.7lbs), has a pair of luminous, waggling doggy-like ears, and can be attached to a Meka torso and arm, if you prefer your robots to be slightly more corporeal.

J'ai posté sur ce blog il y a quelques jours, une interview de Bruno Maisonnier d'Aldebaran. Société qui commercialise Nao (voir ici)... Voilà maitenant Gostai, société aussi française, qui démarre la commercialisation de son Jazz, un robot de téléprésence. Jean Christophe, fondateur de Gostai est d'ailleurs déjà passé sur le e-billautshow (ici). La robotique française se porte plutôt bien. Urbi. Rollin’Justin joue à la baballe. Si votre chien est fainéant au point de ne même pas aller chercher les balles que vous lui lancez pour le distraire, voici Rollin' Justin, le dernier robot de DLR qui lui est parfaitement doué pour cette activité.
Armé de caméras stéréoscopiques et de divers capteurs, il est en effet capable d’anticiper la trajectoire des projectiles lui étant destinés et de les attraper en vol. Attraper une balle jetée en l’air est finalement beaucoup plus complexe qu’il n’y parait, surtout pour un robot qui ne dispose pas d’un sens inné de l’anticipation et de l’adaptation aux situations, ni l’expérience de la physique. Rollin’Justin a été spécialement conçu pour cela, et a donc été équipé de caméras stéréoscopiques ( oui , les mêmes qui permettent de tourner un film en 3D) lui permettant d’avoir un effet de profondeur et de calculer les trajectoires en trois dimensions.

Evolta's Triathlon Evolta is a tiny but deceptively complex little robot (actually a group of similar designs) that Panasonic uses to demonstrate the impressive staying power of its range of Evolta rechargeable batteries.
The bot was designed by Robo-Garage and can be guided on its path by an infrared signal emitter. He's already completed an impressive marathon and climbed the grand canyon but now it's been revealed he's going to undertake a triathlon event--including swimming, running, and cycling for a combined distance of 230 km. The robot is essentially a simple promotional tool for Panasonic, but it does demonstrate a couple of impressive tech features that will be important for our robotic future: Staying power and long battery life. Disney's Super Climber Disney Research has put together a technology demonstrator robot that can climb a vertical wall, leap off, and parafoil gently to the ground--like some kind of Spiderman-Superman droid.
