ClamAV (« Clam AntiVirus »), est un logiciel antivirus pour UNIX. Il est généralement utilisé avec les serveurs de courriels pour filtrer les courriers comportant des virus. Les virus ciblés sont très majoritairement des virus s'attaquant au système d'exploitation Microsoft Windows et non pas aux systèmes sur lesquels ClamAV s'installe, qui sont peu menacés par les virus. Évolutions[modifier | modifier le code] La base de données des virus connus est basée sur celle de l'ancien projet libre antivirus OpenAntiVirus ; celle-ci contenait environ 7 000 signatures. En février 2005, la base de données est de 30 000 souches connues.

Début avril 2006, elle atteint les 50 000 souches connues. Le , la base de données atteint 100 000 logiciels malveillants connus[2]. ClamAV can only detect viruses and move any infected files into a quarantined folder; it cannot remove them from files.

ClamAv detects viruses on all platforms, but it is primarily useful for Windows viruses and malware. Other antivirus programs running on Ubuntu can be found here. By Default 'ClamAV' is in the Main repository so it can install it by the Software Center or Synaptic Package Manager. Just Search for 'clamAv' and install it. ClamAV has two modes of operation; a program that loads into memory only when you want to scan a file, or for more regular use (such as scanning all incoming e-mail), a program that connects to a daemon that is always running. Database updates can also be downloaded automatically . For manual use: install the package clamav. Both methods will also install clamav-freshclam, the updater.
