Tardigrades (commonly known as waterbears or moss piglets ) [ 2 ] are small, water-dwelling, segmented animals with eight legs. They are notable for being one of the most complex of all known polyextremophiles .Imaging from NASA 's Shuttle Radar Topography Mission STS-99 reveals part of the 180 kilometre (112 mi) diameter ring of the crater; clustered around the crater's trough are numerous sinkholes , suggesting a prehistoric oceanic basin in the depression left by the impact.
