eLearning Technology

In a recent conversation, I was asked what I thought about twitter as a learning tool. Over the course of the past few years I’ve moved from saying “I don’t get it” – to feeling like it’s a good addition to my Learning Tool Set . But I also think that there’s a lot more help now around how to make effective use of Twitter as a learning tool. I thought it would be worthwhile to pull together these resources. http://elearningtech.blogspot.com/2010/03/twitter-for-learning-55-great-articles.html

by Shelly Blake-Plock This year has been one of transition for me as I shifted from working full time in the secondary classroom to working online virtually with kids and on the ground throughout the country with educators and technologists. This last November I had a long conversation with Andrew Coy, a public school teacher here in Baltimore. We talked a lot about the variety of ways that the traditional school format was having trouble keeping up with the changes going on culturally and socio-economically with regards to digital literacy and tech access.
I haven’t blogged for a while. I haven’t blogged because I’m confused. I work hard to be a good teacher. I do all the things I’m supposed to: I read professional articles, look to other teachers for ideas, reflect on my practice, plan lessons that encourage kid to think deeply, tie what I do to essential questions and real-life applications, and differentiate my instruction as best I can to meet every kid where they are regardless of how or why they are there.

TinEye is a reverse image search engine. What that means is that instead of searching for images by keyword like you would on Yahoo Images you search for images by uploading an image or linking to an image. For example, if I have a picture of my dog and want to find more pictures of dogs like him, I simply upload a picture of my dog to TinEye and TinEye will search for images like mine. TinEye offers browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, and Opera. With the extension installed you can simply right click on any image and select "search image on TinEye" to quickly conduct an image search. The Ed Techie

http://nogoodreason.typepad.co.uk/no_good_reason/ A long time ago, well, before Simon Cowell was a household name anyway, universities used to run university presses. These would print journals and books. They didn't really make a profit, in fact they often made a loss.

Why did the Chickenman cross the road?

Mar 30 2012 Thank goodness it’s Friday, to help brighten up your day and to help you with your planning at weekends, I will be posting a weekly web based idea that will take just 1 minute of your time to read about. If you like what you read then why not try it out in your lessons after Easter!
This post is part of an ongoing series abridged from the 21st Century Teaching Project (21CTP) - a study of expert professional development trajectories and digital age practice. Let’s assume that the goal of teacher training and professional development (PD) is to prepare teachers with powerful models, tools, and pedagogies that will inform expert practice over a career. If so, the 21CTP is designed to help us as a community, 1) hear from 39 award winning teachers, and 2) ask relevant questions about how to study and design teacher training and PD in the coming years. When over half of these teachers say they completely changed their practice mid-career, I’m particularly interested in what, who, and how those trajectories started. In the first part of this series , I shared one data point on what wasn’t working. The following posts will highlight what was working, who did support these teachers, and how they did grow into expert practitioners. http://dangerouslyirrelevant.org/

Classroom in the Cloud

This morning, Sarah Chattin posted an interesting survey on the English Companion Ning - she was interested in building a classroom library . I take great pride in the stacked bookshelves tucked in the corner of my classroom, so I decided to participate in the survey. Since the survey is a bit lengthy and I tend to ramble anyway, I decided to post my responses here rather than on the Ning reply thread. http://www.classroominthecloud.net/

What Would Yoda Do? A Jedi Approach to Professional Development

, prompted three of us interested in the influence of ‘the digital culture’ on curriculum and pedagogy to discuss how we might contribute to this conversation. Individually, we work in our various contexts (schools, school districts and university settings) to navigate the amorphous digital culture in ways that allow us to integrate emerging technologies into our classroom in purposeful ways. The flexible responses accepted for this call encouraged us to think about the rich learning that we engage in with our online pro fessional learning networks (PLN s).

Blogging About The Web 2.0 Connected Classroom

Back in March I had the chance to sit in and learn with David Warlick . I had heard David speak but not present. So this was a great opportunity for me to learn from and with one of the people I admire most in the education world. I sat in on 2 of his sessions, one on data visualization and the other on social media conversations. They were both very fascinating conversations where he demonstrated some pretty powerful tools.

iLearn Technology » Blog Archive » Thank you once again PLN!

I have to thank my wonderful PLN who once again cheers me on and keeps me going when my life feels like the chaos will never end! Those of you who have signed up for the Educators Blogging Alliance, not to worry I still have the list and hope to get it all set up and sorted out this week. My original date for the launching of the second Blogging Alliance came and went. All I can say is that my plans for the end of the school year were much more ambitious than was actually feasible to accomplish.
