DJ Shadow received critical acclaim before releasing a full LP and upon the completion and release of Endtroducing sealed his place in the record books as creating an album solely built on samples in a landscape where sampling became a difficult art.
Fortunately his approach to sampling didn’t rely on loops and instead used phrase samples as ingredients in what would become a very original sounding album, far removed from any of the individual samples original records. Hip Hop isn’t a relevant description for the style of music Shadow has created over the years however was a big part of his early beginnings while recording with Mo’Wax. A couple of weeks ago DJ Shadow and his online team headed up by Michael Fiebach released “The Remix Project” a collection of Shadows most note worthy records remixed by fan and producers worldwide.
