Intro to Healthcare Systems Modelling. Please see my youtube video introducing the course here The above Youtube video does not mention the Libreoffice tutorials that I have added - see the ten week plan below. I have done this because the last few cohorts of students appear to have less knowledge of basic database concepts than previous cohorts - I hope you do not find these Libreoffice tutorials too basic, if that is the case I will remove them from subsequent runs of the course. Welcome to the Introduction to clinical systems course which lasts 10 weeks and has been designed to take approximately 100 hours of study time to complete. There are several assignments in addition to the familiar essay based one as you are required to complete an online timed Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) exam along with discussion board  (forum) activities where you are required to post a mimimun of 10 messages to pass the unit.

Please note that extensions are very unlikely to be granted for this course. Health Care systems Dev and Eval. Welcome Now you have completed part one of the course which provided you with knowledge and skills about specific aspects of modelling that I feel you needed to understand before you could move onto the more high level social aspects. This, part of the course, concentrates on the human aspect of clinical systems particularly their development/evaluation.

Now the user will take centre stage, and you will learn methods of identifying who 'users' are, how they can be involved and why this is so important. As a gentle introduction the unit begins with getting you to assess your own level of computer anxiety. Because occassionally there may be a student who has not encountered a clinical system I provide some background information in a series of ABC health informatics articles, the vast majority of you will be able to ignore this material and move on quickly. The course ends by revisiting the topic of Decision Support Systems (DSS) mentioned in the IS introduction. Carolyn Aydin's articles. UML diagrams with magicdraw. Communication and the consultation. Health informatics. What the course is: The diagram above provides a suggested route through some of the database material, and associated handouts. Click on the name to see the document. If all the examples are undertaken each handout takes on average 3 hrs to complete, therefore the total time to complete the non optional modules is 42 hrs (14x3).

The aims of such a course are to: Provide a good understanding of database concepts. What the course is not: The course is NOT designed to make you profficient at developing sufficiently robust databases which could be used by others. Medical stats 2. Welcome. This is the second course in medical statistics (you can see the first course here.) This course has been designed specifically for medics and those concerned directly with healthcare provision, while students from other disciplines are welcome to use the material it is advised that they search out examples of the various techniques discussed within their own discipline to compliment the materials presented here. The course assumes that you have completed the introductory course before undertaking this one - if you have not done this it is unlikely you will understand the material above and specifically you will probably find using R for the various exercises extremely difficult.

This is a 10 week (around 100 hours of work) course which introduces you to survival analysis, logistic regression, and various other varieties of multiple regression, however the focus of the course is on the modern analysis of repeated measures, the so called Linear Mixed Models (LMM) approach. Medical stats 1. Important information: Before you start the course you should have worked through the following school statistics - revision material see here Welcome. This is the first course in medical statistics which has been designed specifically for medics and those concerned directly with healthcare provision, and while students from other disciplines are welcome to use the material it is advised that they search out examples of the various techniques discussed within their own discipline to supplement this material. The course assumes that you have some knowledge of, and expertise in, statistics including understanding of the common types of descriptive statistic (mean, median, mode and standard deviation/variance), graphical representation of data (boxplots, barcharts, histograms, scatterplots and straight line of best fit) along with the basics of probability. Required resources To complete this course you will need: Additional none essential texts. Intro to stats for medics 1.
