It is the UN system's authoritative voice on the state and behaviour of the Earth's atmosphere, its interaction with the oceans, the climate it produces and the resulting distribution of water resources. WMO has a membership of 189 Member States and Territories (on 4 December 2009).

From 18Z 31MAR12 to 18Z 07APR12, JTWC will temporarily cease tropical cyclone warning operations and a Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) will be implemented with limited tropical cyclone forecast support to be provided by Fleet Weather Center Norfolk (FWC-N). During the noted period, FWC-N will provide TC warning messages, warning graphics, JMV files, and GCCS files for all tropical cyclones in the JTWC AOR.
