Matthew and Cassie's Big Climbing Trip. Wow it's been a crazy month since our last post.
We went to the City of Rocks for climbing and then all heck broke loose with traveling. This post is a recount of our trip over the last week of August. We went to Oregon to visit Cassie's parent's and her grandmother. Had a fantastic time with them for a few days. Went to the coast for a beautiful day walking down the beach and trying to check out some tidepools. So a few days later we left and headed to Washington. Upskill Climbing Blog by Lee Cujes. Well, it's true. I am back in Australia and back in my own house. In the end, it was 11 months on the road. Climbing destinations included: Kalymnos (Greece), Geyikbayiri , Olympos (Turkey), Boulder , Rifle , Maple Canyon , Ten Sleep Canyon (all USA), Rodellar , Margalef , Arboli , Riglos (all Spain), Vietnam , Hong Kong , Yangshuo (China), & Railay (Thailand). Usually, my trips away are pretty short and sweet, so it's go go go the whole time and collapse when you get back home.

Before we head into the interior of the mountainous Sinai peninsula, we will spend a day or so on the bolted routes at Wadi Gnai, just outside of Dahab.
Sinai has not seen the development of the other major Middle Eastern climbing venue, Wadi Rum, but it has at least as much rock. Sinai does have a long history of climbing; as far back as 1937 a party including the famous Italian climber Comici climbed Jebel Ghara (1,900m) and many of the faces in the area. Tony Howard, the guru of Middle Eastern adventure, has also climbed throughout the region.
More recent development by British, Israeli and French climbers has started to touch on the vast potential that this place has to offer. There’s Yangshuo, then Huguan Province and now Getu Valley and the list goes on as I continue conversing with one Chinese climber during my recent trip to Getu. Arches…they seem to be the most abundant limestone formation at China’s most prominent climbing areas. Getu Valley in itself has a number of areas with massive, stadium sized, limestone cliffs. The Big Arch in Getu Valley dwarves Moonhill in Yangshuo at least five to six times. The Petzl RocTrip to this part of the world took place in October 2011.
