A web page has appeared at music.twitter.com with a #music hashtag graphic and a sign-in button, adding further weight to reports that Twitter will be launching a music service very soon. The sign-in button leads to an authorization request for an app called "Trending Music Web," which Stephen Phillips, founder of We Are Hunted — the music service Twitter just acquired — has recently been tweeting songs from. The tweets link to tracks on SoundCloud and Rdio, suggesting that these services will form a part of Twitter Music. Although it's unclear exactly what Trending Music Web is, the name implies it could be the web portion of a wider, cross-platform Trending Music service. The #music site's sign-in button is currently non-functional, but with the page already available to view at such an obvious URL, we'd expect it to go live soon enough.
Posted by Good German on January 31, 2012 Photo: Stilfehler (CC) Via ScienceDaily : Age-related delays in neural timing are not inevitable and can be avoided or offset with musical training, according to a new study from Northwestern University. The study is the first to provide biological evidence that lifelong musical experience has an impact on the aging process. Measuring the automatic brain responses of younger and older musicians and non-musicians to speech sounds, researchers in the Auditory Neuroscience Laboratory discovered that older musicians had a distinct neural timing advantage.
Though you may not think of this, one of the wonderful places designers can look for inspiration is the world of music. In fact, some of you might already do this unconsciously; how many of you listen to music as you design? As a writer, I keep my headphones on when I write so I can let the music inspire me, so I imagine other creative types would find music to be just as helpful to their own work. But a closer look at how music works can really give us a sense for how its elements can directly translate into great design. I’ve listed the four basic elements of music and tried to offer great design elements that I think correspond with them.
The entire reason music exists is because of its almost magical ability to push your buttons. An upbeat song gets you going, a sad song makes you cry and drink. But the more science studies music's effect on the human brain, the more bizarre things we discover.
