For me, this is the time of year for a good gin & tonic, and judging by a shortage of tonic waters at the local grocery stores right now, I’m not the only one who thinks so.

Making Tonic Water from Scratch

I thought it would be a good time to update and rerun this piece for July 2014, with lots of updates. The recipe section has been extensively updated. I have also posted a roundup of commercial tonic waters which you can read here. One cool spring evening, I spotted an article in Imbibe magazine which extolled the virtues of making tonic water from scratch. It included the much-loved recipe from Kevin Ludwig who, at the time, was at Park Kitchen. You’d think after years of cooking experience, I’d know better. I quickly scanned the article. I was miffed (to say the least…), but in the end, decided that it was tough to blame my mischievous machine because I understand how hard it is to be around a perfectly ripe Camembert de Normandie and not want to wolf the whole thing down. As they would say in Paris when presented with an irresistible cheese — C’est un catastrophe, a demi-joke referring to the devastating effect it has on la ligne. (One’s figure.) Like the genie in the bottle, once you let a soon-to-be goopy camembert out of its container, no matter how firm you think it’s gonna remain, there’s no turning back once it starts doing what comes naturally.

Aangezien meerdere mensen hier een dehydrator hebben leek 't me wel leuk om het recept dat ik gebruik voor beefjerky hier neer te zetten, het is namelijk een erg lekkere en gezonde snack Begin met een stuk mals vlees. Ik heb in dit recept een rosbief gebruikt, maar een runderbiefstuk is ook prima Om het snijden makkelijker te maken kan je 't beste het vlees een uur of 2 in de diepvries leggen. De marinade voor beefjerky is vrij simpel, gelijke hoeveelheden sojasaus en Worcestershiresaus, wat zout (niet teveel), wat zwarte peper en een geperst teentje knoflook. In dit geval heb ik de volgende ingredienten gebruikt:4 Eetlepels sojasaus4 Eetlepels Worcestershiresaus2 Theelepels zout3 Theelepels zwarte peper1 Eetlepel Rawitpoeder2 Geperste teentjes knoflook Zorg ervoor dat het blok niet te hoog is, ongeveer 5 centimeter is prima. Pumpkin Muffins

I've been pinning all kinds of recipes to my "yum" board in preparation. This one was first on my list. There's only two ingredients. That's right, just the cake mix and the pumpkin (15 oz.). No oil, no eggs, no water, nothing else. It felt kind of strange not to add any liquids to the mix but it came together nicely into a thick batter.
