Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. There was a time.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

When men were men. They were screaming like crazy speeches, faced the impossible, and said things that made no sense, but that even so we did say "EPIC". There was a time. A time of captains Harlock, a master time Asia, a time of Domons. Logic was not important. The time is gone A wave of animes that have to be "realistic", "philosophical", "adults" around us. Few original anime (non-manga based) can pass this spirit, and if I had to indicate a Studio to produce an epic-without-notion, "Gainax" probably would not be the first on my list.

Many have already heard things about this series of 27 episodes. With certain exceptions (some Gundam, some Macross, tss), never been a fan of mecha anime. The series is a species of "giant parody mecha", a spoof so well done that took an undeniable brilliance. -Characters- The cast features some of the most best ever seen in recent years, with big names like Kamina ("do not believe in yourself. -Technical Issues- Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!

There is a scene in Watamote where the main character, Tomoko, experiences what she believes to be public molestation.

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!

She panics, unable to even breathe or call for help. The train suddenly stops, and the passengers begin to take their leave. Tomoko then realizes that the object pressing against her is simply a bamboo sword belonging to the girl behind her. After much public embarrassment, she finally breaks free, and moves on to yet another miserable day of her life.

To say that Watamote is an uncomfortable anime would be an understatement. Tomoko is a high school girl that simply wants to be liked by her peers. Does she bring some of these problems upon herself? Unlike the source material which presents itself entirely as a gag manga, the anime teases us with signs that Tomoko might actually be changing for the better. The humor of Watamote is akin to kicking a kitten, and worse - a kitten that you sympathize with. Kill la Kill. Welcome to Kill la Kill.

Kill la Kill

This is where fanservice is plot, style is substance and every episode plays out like the finale. This is anime. From the makers of FLCL, Gurren Lagann and Panty and Stocking, Kill la Kill is the first television production series under the newly formed Studio Trigger. Its is a tale of a transfer student, Matoi Ryuuko, wielding a scissor-sword, comes to Honnouji Academy to look for her father's killer. Opposing her is the Student Council President, Kiryin Satsuki, as well as her personal guard of the Elite Four, who are developing uniforms of immense power. Kill la Kill takes all the worn-out tropes and clichés of anime, amps it up to eleven and then delightfully invert them to give something exciting and fresh. On a first glance, Kill la Kill's visuals is reminiscent of cell animation at its peak during the late 1990s with its warm color palette and strong outlines.

Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch. Lots of thinking involved, and the main character exploits a 'magical power' to try to change the world.

Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch

Genius's with a special power using their brain strategising and planning. Light and Lelouch have similar ideals and try to change the world in the name of justice but acts more like the villain Both anime have a main character who can control other people. Two student who get a power and use it to rid the world of evil, but it slowly takes them over. Both shows are very similar, and Light = Lelouch. The protagonists, Lelouch and Light, both gain an ability that can change the world. both the main characters' wish is to change the world with their own hands..plus the two main characters shares almost the same attitudes...plus the flow of the story too..it's kinda the same~ Main Characters have the same kind of intentions.

Both anime are like a chess game. The two opposing protagonists in each series fights for what they believe is true justice. Uses their intellectual skills. RUN! Well... Neon Genesis Evangelion. Note: This is a spoiler-free review.

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Occasionally, one gains knowledge of a certain story or event, in any form, that boggles his or her mind beyond comprehension. You don't know how you feel about it. Do you hate it or love it? It's definitely not just 'average' if it could evoke such uncertainty and conflict within you. Baccano! Both shows are adapted from novels that are by the same author, Narita Ryohgo.

Baccano!

Not to mention that the same animation studio and team worked on both adaptations. I'm almost certain that if you enjoyed Baccano for the obvious reasons, then you'll love this. Both from the same author and director - both masterpieces! Both have many small stories which come together into one. In Baccano! Both are from the same Director and are very similar to each other except that baccano took place at an older year and Durarara is during this time city.
