On one of my recent pictures I got a comment that it had a bit of a Gregory Crewdson feel to it… so I googled him and was blown away by his work – what he does is way out of my possibilities in so many ways… (if you are interested, search on youtube for his work and you will see for yourself) ….yet, I felt tempted to pay “his world” a little visit – and take my pictures there and see what happens… I used three Tungsten Fresnels (with a filter to mimic daylight), the lamps I found in the room and the window light… which was all in all quite a mix in color temperatures – it looked ok as it was – but you never know how the camera records it…..the film handled it quite well and produced a slight retro look.
I tried to create a little series with the images I would have chosen … at the end I included other images I found ok… let me know if my choice was off … Brooke Shaden : Recent Travels: Death Valley and Texas. I always considered myself someone who never got to travel that much. Being from the northeast coast of the United States, it was common to drive through lots of little states but never really see them, or to vacation in on the coast which looked quite like all the other states.
It didn’t really feel like traveling. But lately I’ve had the opportunity to go places. 2011 has been a good year for that, and I am making sure that 2012 is going to be even better. This year I’ve been to England, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington & Texas to name a few places. Two weeks ago, on a complete whim, I drove with my husband and close friend to Death Valley. We saw the salt flats in 125 degree (F) weather, which was scary hot, and we also got to hike a canyon that was downright amazing. A failed attempt at jumping on the salt flats! The thing that we all really went for though were the sand dunes. This is the end result. Bol Beauté Lumodi pour Flash Cobra. J’ai été converti il y a peu au bol beauté, le rendu de la peau sublime les portraits. Manque de chance (comprendre budget) acheter un bol beauté de studio ça chiffre vite. J’ai tenté de faire des DIY, en ai trouvé de très bien (dont un avec une bassine et un diffuseur lambency, on ne rigole pas), mais on était quand même pas au niveau de répartition équilibrée de lumière sans compter la grosse perte de lumière ou encore le poids à faire supporter par le flash cobra.
Et puis, je suis tombé sur ce bol beauté de la société américaine lumodi. Je m’égare, revenons au test! Comme vous allez l’entendre dans la vidéo qui suit, la construction est à la hauteur de mes espérances : il est léger et la peinture utilisée pour la réflexion semble être parfaitement adaptée. Quelque part au nord de Beijing en Chine La Californie a enfin été bénie d'une nouvelle journée de pluie dont nous avions bien besoin et j'en ai profité pour continuer à installer mon nouveau MacPro. Afin de patienter durant quelques opérations un peu longues j'ai décidé de jeter un oeil à d'anciennes photos. J'ai pris le cliché ci-dessus en 2006 lors d'un long voyage en Chine avec des amis, quelques moi après avoir commencé la photographie. J'étais surpris de trouver cette photo dans une collection de fichiers RAW que je n'avais jamais édité ni publié et j'ai été encore plus surpris du nombre de bonnes photos que j'ai ignoré pendant de si longues années.
Cette trouvaille m'a rappelé deux fondamentaux de la photographie moderne. Tout d'abord, ne jetez pas vos RAW (ou négatifs), sauf les plus mauvais ou les doublons inutiles. Il suffit d'un peu plus d'expérience, d'un point de vue différent ou d'une humeur différente pour identifier de bonnes photos jusque-là ignorées. Jacques Luce Photographies.
