Make Your Own Magnetic Spice Rack. Before we moved into our present home, we lived in a 2,000-square-foot loft in an urban neighborhood. Our kitchen took up over 200 square feet of that open space with cupboards and cabinets galore, and an island counter that was so massive, friends joked about having go-go dancers groovin’ on it while we hosted dinner parties. Now that we’re living in the coastal ‘burbs in a more traditional house, our kitchen has been downsized to less than half that space. They just didn’t need all that storage back in 1929 when our bungalow was built. As such, we had to get creative when we moved in — along with all our stuff.

A lot of stuff. I’m an unapologetic gadget geek, and I have tools for every task at hand, whether it’s a julienne peeler or an ice cream maker. Thanks to my husband’s mad Tetris skills, we were able to stack and store all our things quite efficiently, but the one thing we did have to part with was our spinning spice rack. What You’ll Need: Simple Spice Drawer Organization. Felted Wool Rose Wreath Tutorial.

Supplies needed: hot glue gun and glue sticks, scissors, circle patterns (I used bowls), felt (I use wool felt, but you could also use regular felt), marking pen, grapevine wreath. Start by making circles all over your felt...I used blues and some light purples, greys, and cream colored felt for mine. Now cut out on the inside of the marked line. You can also just free hand the circles like I do, but I thought I would show you the scientific way to do it! Now you have your circles all cut out for each of the flowers...for the large wreath I made 27 roses, for the smaller one in the last picture I think there are 20 on the wreath.

I drew on this circle to show you generally how I cut mine out. This is what you have now... Next pick up the outside or the pointy end of the felt and begin rolling it up keeping the bottom flat... keep rolling until you are close to the circle you left... and this is what you have. Adjust the circle so that it covers the bottom of the rolled area. Ta-Da!! How to make tiny bows @ Do It Yourself Pins. EXTRAORDINARY Ideas: 25 Christmas Projects! Life As Lou :: Magic Boxes: A Life As Lou Online Class :: January :: 2008. Due to popular demand, I am doing a tutorial on the Magic Boxes I showed off in some previous posts. To begin, choose your paper. You need six sheets of matching paper (preferably a heavier weight). Choose one for your outside, budgeting for a contrasting one for your lid, and 4 to create the inside boxes.

Cut as follows (all measurement are in inches): Outside: 6 x 11 3/4ths Lid: 8.5 x 8.5 4 inner boxes: 8 x 8 The only challenging part of this project is creating the lid and inside compartments. 1. 2. fold the tips of your paper in so that they meet at the center. Fold in all four sides, and then unfold. 3. This fold gives you the sides of your box. 4. I have also colored four triangles. 5. 6. Do the same thing on the other side. 7. Repeat this process on your 8 inch and 8.5 inch papers. Now for the outside. 1. 2. To put the boxes in, first adhere one to the very top right corner, making certain that you are flush with the corner of the outside paper. Here are a few that I’ve made.

Herringbone Quilt Block Tutorial. This month it's my turn to lead the quilt design for the Love circle of do. Good Stitches. Mmm... I love it when my turn comes around! I get to pondering all the many, many, MANY ideas I have for quilts and then to pinpoint one (darn, just one?) To bring to fruition with the 9 other members of our quilting bee circle. This month I'm drawing inspiration from Holly of Bijou Lovely's beautiful Herringbone quilt, made with the Inspire circle of do. I had thought to send my circle to Holly's great tutorial for her 12.5" square chevron blocks and that would be that. Really! Holly's tutorial calls for 2.5" wide strips, but the bulk of my scrap strips are 2" or narrower. Herringbone Block Tutorial *Finished size 11" x 22" (11.5" x 22.5" unfinished)*Supplies: 2" wide strips and 6" x 24" rigid quilting ruler Step 1: Cutting Sort through your scraps to find strips that are at least 2" wide and 11" long.

Step 2: Layout The Herringbone block is worked in two separate halves. Step 3: Piece Pairs HELP! Tutorial: Strip and Flip Baby Quilt. This fun scrappy quilt is quick to put together and great for beginners. Use lots of different colors to keep it bright and fun…or just a few colors to keep it calm and simple.

Finished Size: 36" x 41" 1. You’ll need to cut 27 color strips 2" x width of the fabric (at least 36") and 2 white strips 1 1/2" x width of the fabric (at least 42"). 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Fast, fun, and CUTE! Magical 3-in-1 Cat Bed. Simon and Pixel, my two wonderful kitties, are convinced that my worktable is the very best spot for napping. So, to give them a comfy place where they can still be close, yet well out of harm’s way, I designed this simple, compact 3-in-1 cat bed for my desk.

Even my furry snobs—who prefer cardboard boxes and freshly washed laundry to plush cushions any day—couldn’t wait to snuggle in. Now, several days out, I can happily report that the kitties are still in love with their new bed, and I couldn’t be more pleased. Since I know that finding a cat bed that persnickety kitties will actually use qualifies as a minor miracle, let’s get right down to the project. This tutorial will show you how to make a cat bed that can be used in three different ways, so you’ll always be ready to accommodate even the most finicky feline. (Hence the magic.) Supplies:* 2 yards of 36” wide craft felt. Step 1Using fabric scissors, cut out two 13” circles out of craft felt for the bottom of the cat bed. 1. 2.

Photo Tile Coasters {Using Resin} Last Christmas I almost had a breakdown... We had just moved in to our home the month before, but I didn't want to let that prevent us from having the holliest jolliest Christmas.

My intentions were good. I wanted to make Christmas special for everyone, but I learned the hard way that I should have been planning ahead!! And that's how it happened. Well, with this project I created an anniversary gift AND a Christmas gift. While I was in Utah, my sweet cousin Michelle showed me a couple of projects using resin. Here's how I made these photo coasters... I started out with a trip to Home Depot. Next, I ordered some photos. Only 13 cents a print at Costco! I used a regular old Elmer's glue stick to paste each picture onto the tiles.

I won't give a full tutorial on using resin because each product is a little different. After mixing the resin with the hardener, I just poured it on! Then it took them a full 24 hours to harden up! All done! Now these are stinkin' cute!! Happy weekend! Bath Fizzies.

Color. Crochet. Sewing Projects. Bath Fizzies. Sewing 101: making a pouf. Add a burst of color to your room with this crafty pouf! At 17” wide and 10” deep, it’s large enough to serve as floor seating or a foot stool. (And if you have pets, I have a feeling they may want to make this their new favorite spot!) This project is a little challenging to sew, but it’s not too difficult, so if you’re comfortable with the basics of sewing, give it a try.

You can make a colorwheel effect with a range of solid colors, or choose a variety of patterned fabrics for a louder patchwork effect. Medium-weight cottons work well for this design (check out quilting shops for great selections of solids and prints). I love the idea of making a set of these poufs in a range of sizes, for a sculptural stack of cushions that will become a room element in their own right. Finished Dimensions: 17” diameter by 10” tall What You’ll Need ¼ yard each 12 coordinating fabrics (I used quilting cottons) 1 yard muslin 3 pounds fiberfill stuffing iron 1.

Kristine Mckay Designs. Custom Covers for your Harry Potter Novels. I am a big fan of the Potter series. I really wanted a nice set of collector's styled editions for my shelves, but I'm not too keen on the deluxe editions that have been released. They are also pretty pricy, and considering that I already own copies of all the books, it seemed a little indulgent to spend so much on another set. So I decided to re-cover my hardback copies of the standard editions with my own "deluxe" design, to add a bit more style to my bookshelves. I am also using this project as an excuse to have a play with laser transfer foil, which I've never used before. I've got to say, it's pretty amazing stuff, and opens up a world of possibilities. I sourced my foil at a great site called Crafty Computer Paper ( They have LOTS of exciting products!)

The laser transfer foil only works with Laser printers, or photocopies. This technique can be applied to any hardback book, and I'm tempted to make some similar styled covers for some other series I have. PHOTOS: Stunning Mason Jar Crafts. I saw this wreath over at Design Sponge and loved everything about it. But I took the idea and decided to make this felt heart wreath for my self. It is the perfect Valentine’s Day Craft and although a bit time consuming…it really easy to make.

This wreath is so easy to make but can be a bit time consuming. My hubby was recently out-of-town on business. So, over a couple of evenings I was able to watch some chick flicks and put together this wreath. I bought my heart shaped foam wreath at JoAnn’s (Michaels might have them too). I used a cup from my cupboard to make a 3 inch circle template. Then take a straight pin and pin it through the bottom of the point. You will not need to do this on the back of the wreath. EDDIE ROSS - No Wire Hangers! (Well, Maybe Just One) Here's a Christmas wreath so darling and dear, even Miss Crawford would approve.

Take one of these... and bend it into the form of a circle. Then, grab your glue gun and as many round ornaments in varying sizes as you can find. You'll need about 80 in all. Whenever I do my tree, I like the more unusual shapes, so it's always the round ones I have left over. Even if you don't, though, you can always find them for reasonable prices at a discount retailer, especially after the holidays. To secure the metal cap to the ball, dab a little hot glue and press. Next, untwist the end of the hanger, then string one ornament at a time, making sure to alternate the placement and colors as desired.
