Disco-tastic Italian Beatles medley from 1978 will melt your brain! Sure, you can have your Joe Walsh, your Peter Frampton, your Katy Perry (and be sure to check out that preposterous headline in that link, there). When it comes to Beatles tributes, I’m very comfortable going with the delirious disco version that Italian dancer Raffaella Carrà headed up on Italian TV in 1978. She truly captured the essence of the Beatles. Carrà was kind of a big deal in her native Italy as well as Albania, Greece, Latin America, and elsewhere. According to Wikipedia, “She was the first television figure to show her belly button on camera. This was met with heavy criticism from the Vatican.” I’m pretty sure they mean “in Italy,” there. The video features at least a dozen dancers working their asses off—working hard.

Video: Neil Young’s Many Versions of ‘All Along the Watchtower ‘ Neil Young has long been a fan of Bob Dylan. More than a fan. Neil’s whole trip is inspired by Bob Dylan. Don’t misunderstand. Young has taken that inspiration and created his own art that is unique. Young has performed a number of Dylan songs over the years, most recently “Blowin’ in the Wind” at Farm Aid last year and during his recent acoustic shows. Below are a number of totally rockin’ versions of “All Along the Watchtower.” Dylan’s 30th Anniversary Concert, Oct 16, 1992: Neil Young – All Along the Watchtower by LeBalayeur Tanzbrunnen, Köln, Germany, July 19, 1993 w/ Booker T And The MGs: Neil Young, Torhout Festival, Belgium, 1993: Neil Young, Willie Nelson and Crazy Horse at Farm Aid concert in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 18, 1994: Neil Young with Frank “Poncho” Sampedro and Booker T & the MGs in Nürburg, Germany, on May 18, 2002.

Interview: Big Brother And The Holding Company's Sam Andrew on Janis Joplin. Big Brother And The Holding Company, 1968 (from left): James Gurley, Janis Joplin, Sam Andrew, Dave Getz, Peter Albin - and Mishka the dog. "I only played with Janis for two and a half years, but we crammed a lot into that short time," says Sam Andrew, co-founder and co-guitarist (along with James Gurley) of Big Brother And The Holding Company, one of most explosive musical forces to come out of San Francisco and the band which catapulted Janis Joplin to legend.

"We were constantly exploring and reaching. The era let us do that. It was exciting. " Although Big Brother And The Holding Company are now thought of as Joplin's backing band, the truth is, the singer joined the group (which also included drummer Dave Getz and bassist Peter Albin) after they had firmly established themselves as one of the Bay Area's prime movers. How would you describe Big Brother pre-Janis? "Very free and very ignorant. How did Janis come to join? "She walked in one day and started singing some songs. Dream weaver gary wright. Deep Beatles: The Beatles, “Her Majesty” from Abbey Road (1969) Concluding our walk through the Abbey Road medley is the brief, secret coda “Her Majesty.” At only 23 seconds, it stands as the shortest song in the Beatles catalog. However, it exemplifies composer Paul McCartney’s gift for melody, and provides a cheeky ending that winks at the audience. Her Majesty may not have had a lot to say, but the song and its formation speaks volumes.

The track began life as a song fragment that McCartney brought to the Let It Be sessions at Twickenham Studios. Written during a Scotland holiday, he introduced “Her Majesty” to the other Beatles on January 9, 1969. His initial effort featured McCartney playing piano while humming some of the yet-to-be-completed lyrics. About two weeks later, the group returned to the track, this time back at Apple Studios. Interestingly, “Her Majesty” takes on a country twang in this version, quite different from the minimalist arrangement of the final take.

In 1969, McCartney explained that he wrote the song “as a joke.” Pink Floyd - Careful With That Axe Eugene. TRAVIS PICKING /FUNK/BLUES /JAZZFUNK/FLAMENCO/SHREDROCK/FUNKBLUEGRASS in one video. The life of Harry Nilsson is one of rock’s tallest tales. Melodic savant with the pipes of an angel, in the late ‘60s he became America’s one-man answer to the Beatles, before spiralling out of control and eventually squandering his talent with the help of his similarly self-hating booze buddy, John Lennon. “It’s not a question of how long you’ve lived, but of how,” he once reminisced. “I’d rather be dead, than wet my bed, you know?”. Nilsson’s heart eventually gave out on January 15, 1994. We’ve collated some of the best online Harry-based enlightenment for you via the 14 videos below.

Then be sure to check out Jim Irvin’s appreciation of Nilsson’s music. Below, MOJO’s Jim Irvin hymns the singer’s singer who was scared of the stage and got lost on record. Harry Nilsson’s records, especially the early ones, were deceptive; his sweet, mellow voice and musical facility made them feel effortless, as pretty and lightweight as bubbles.
