I bought this on the strength of STASH, and the intense high-contrast sleeve. But I didn’t have high hopes. Everything seemed to indicate that this was going to be boring seafood restaurant jazz.
Gaznevada adventure started at the end of the seventies when Billy Blade (vocal and sax), Bat Matic (drums), Andy Nevada (vocal and synth), Chainsaw Sally (bass) and Robert Squibb (guitar) decided it was time to give to their social / sonic hysteria a form. March, 1977. After the university riots some of them, start to live together in a flat in Bologna with other artists and friends. The aggregation place is an occupied house in Bologna where they lodge artists, musicians, designers, cartoonists and directors. At this time the name of the band is "Centro D'Urlo Metropolitano".

Very rare album by the Dutch composer Jurriaan Andriessen, brother of the famous Dutch avantgarde composer Louis Andriessen. Jurriaan didn’t compose the culturally correct modern classical music, and went his own way. Here he composed a loungy space moog suite called “The Awakening Dream”. He played all synths himself ( Moog, Mini moog, Fender rhodes, Clavinet, Organ, Schultze Phase) Trippy and surprisingly good album sometimes very OST-like.

In response to the handful of More Rockers requests we received in the past week alone, I have to say their old material is impossible to find! I couldn't find anything really. So I apologize for that, but I did find some great mixes featuring lots of that Bristol Dub/Drum'n'Bass sound, including More Rockers acetates. So that should tide you over until something more substantial comes along... "From the end of the Civil War until the '30s, these islands enjoyed a period of isolation from mainland life. During these years, a further cultural blend took place between the descendents of two sets of former slaves: the Afro-Americans and a huge group of former slaves from the Bahamas who traveled there following the abolishment of slavery in the British empire. The Sea Islanders, having suffered captivity, enjoyed the release of their bonds and created a music of endurance and freedom utilizing the unique dialect of the islands.
I’m pleased to present ‘ Good Morning ,’ Musicophilia’s third guest mix (with several more soon to come). I recently had the pleasure of befriending a very talented musician, writer, and unrepentant music geek, Hiram Lucke. Hiram and his wife Melissa Rodenbeek create beautiful, wide-ranging music under the name The Harvey Girls . The numerous loves they share (for each other, for making music, and for hearing music) are deeply imbued in what they do. I asked Hiram if he’d be interested in guest-mixing at Musicophilia after he asked to interview me for Circle Into Square and we hit it off, and after immersing myself in The Harvey Girls’ music, I suggested the loose idea of “an influences mix”.

Yeah, you read that right. In 1969, Quincy "I Fucking Produced Thriller" Jones was the musical director for The Cosby Show. This album is him jamming with the tight ensemble he put together to use as background music, and it's awesome.

I'm sad to say that Michael Garrick passed away last Friday leaving a legacy hard to rival on both the British and the worldwide jazz scene. Tony Higgins,who compiled both the "Impressed" cds of British jazz and contributed the third unreleased volume to this blog last year was a friend of Michael Garricks so who better to pay tribute to him. Michael Garrick 1933 - 2011 The death of Michael Garrick on 11 Nov 2011 brings to a close a most fascinating and extraordinary life dedicated to one thing - music. In the time I knew Mike, his humour, erudition and commitment was infectious and inspiring and it seemed entirely appropriate that I was playing his beautiful and haunting composition 'Black Marigolds', a track about loss and memory, the moment I heard the sad news. I'm not a believer in fate but this made me pause for a moment, think deeply and feel the moment.

I’ve been sitting on a bunch of old beats that I produced way back when, some dating back 10+ years to my college days. So, I’m in Atlanta a little over a year ago polyin’ with my bro, Kontrol , when he hips me to the idea of pairing some of them with industry acapellas and remixing a collection of a select rapper’s work. Next he asked, “If you could work with any rapper on those beats who would it be?”It began as an experiment to see if DJ Shadow could engage and empower the online remixing community. Eighty or so submissions later, he started thinking “Hmm, maybe we should open this up a little!”. Arno Kammermeier, 50% of the German electronic music duo Booka Shade, recently took time out of his busy tour and production schedule to speak on the band’s name, will.i.am, inspiration and More!

Erich Mühsam was an anarchist who despised dogma & close-mindedness in reform movements, particularly as manifested in Marxism. He believed adamantly in the power of the individual & the power of the lowest classes of society. A radical critic of bourgeois society, Erich Mühsam rejected all forms of state control and advocated political anarchism from an early point. He fought for a radical form of soviet democracy in the 1918 November revolution, was sentenced to fifteen years’ imprisonment in a fortress in 1919 for “literary high treason,” and not pardoned until 1924. He published the anarchist monthly magazine "Fanal" from the fall of 1926, calling for “social revolution.” Mühsam was arrested immediately after the Reichstag fire, and severely maltreated.African
