Jquery-text-truncate - Project Hosting on Google Code. Recently I had the need to truncate a section of styled HTML text so it would fit inside a container with a specific pixel width. You might have thought this would be something pretty easy to make happen with a little JQuery and some .css() and .width() commands. You would have been mistaken. I know I was. Among the tricky aspects was my desire that the text retain its styling, regardless of the width of the container. I also wanted it to truncate at the appropriate complete letter, rather than chop a word off in the middle of a letter.

I wanted to be able to specify a string to use to indicate truncation (eg: “…”). I wanted the complete text to be preserved, and added to the element as a title tag so that it would be available to readers who hovered over the truncated text. What I decided I needed was a temporary DOM object where I could copy the styled text. Then I realized that tables adjust their width to the width of their contents, AND are able to report that width when queried. Adapter votre appli web à l'iphone et android. It takes about three weeks lately for an app to get approved and into the iTunes store. Lately I’ve noticed that some developers are avoiding building apps and, instead, are building custom web pages that are designed specifically for the iPhone.

I’m not the only one, Marshall Kirkpatrick, over at ReadWriteWeb is seeing the same trend and yesterday featured several services that are building iPhone web experiences but not apps. Examples you might be already using are Twitter’s mobile site, or Techmeme’s mobile site. But yesterday another one came along from Nextstop, which is a cool new app for sharing cool things to do near you (great for travelers to check out) and they, too, decided on HTML5 instead of doing an iPhone app.

Some reasons Nextstop likes HTML5: 1. Anyway, if you want to learn more about the latest thinking of iPhone app developers, this is a good video to watch. Social Experience | online customer community tools. Importing and exporting your mail. From MozillaZine Knowledge Base Introduction If your old email client is still installed, the easiest solution is to import the e-mail, address books and settings using Tools -> Import . If it is not installed or Thunderbird doesn't know how to import data from it, typically you need to find some way to export or convert your old email client's mail files to either .EML or mbox files, and some way to export or convert the address books to .CSV or .LDIF files.

And if you just need to transfer email between email clients, another option is doing so indirectly via a mail server . Thunderbird, Netscape, Mozilla Suite and SeaMonkey use mbox files to store the messages for a folder. If you have problems importing .EML files using the ImportExportTools extension try using eml2mbx to convert the .EML files to a mbox file and then import the mbox file using the ImportExportTools extension. By Ilya Grigorik on April 07, 2008 The underlying tenets of agile - short iterations, quick releases, faster feedback loops - create an underlying tension with many of the 'traditional' testing requirements.

A quick google search for 'types of software testing' brings up several dozen concepts, many of which are nothing short of unrealistic given typical one/two week team iteration. Of course, value of any practice depends on its context, which is another way of saying: there are good practices in context, but there are no best practices. Hence, let's set the context: you're a small web development team (2-7 people), working on a live project (you have customers), with expectation of delivering a functional slice of your backlog every two weeks. Flickr, Friendfeed, and others... Good software testing is a challenging process. Discovering the formula How far do you go? How do you test, what do you test, when do you (or your team) stop?

Breaking: Salesforce.com Buys GroupSwim | CloudAve. By Ben Kepes on December 11, 2009 Big news this morning is the announcement of a deal that sees salesforce.com acquire GroupSwim (more on GroupSwim here). It seems the announcement came today but this has been brewing for sometime, GroupSwim VP of Customer Success Jason Rothbart’s Facebook status is showing him as a director of salesforce since August of this year. According to the GroupSwim site, existing users still have access “during this transition” but GroupSwim is not accepting any new registrations.

The entire GroupSwim team (both US and Sweden based) has now been rolled into salesforce itself. Given salesforce’s recent acquisition/deal with Coda2go (now FinancialForce) and the recent *announcement* of salesforce chatter, this deal sees salesforce really starting to round out a complete business productivity suite, all able to be built, developed upon, and delivered on the force.com platform. I spoke with Rothbart who was understandably reluctant to give out much detail. Ben Kepes.

Coda2go and Salesforce – Oh the Irony | CloudAve. By Ben Kepes on September 30, 2009 There is some poetic irony in the news today as the originator of the SaaS acronym, salesforce.com, announces an investment in one of the copybook examples of moving from on-premises to SaaS, Coda2go. (More on Coda here). Here we see a marriage between salesforce – the king of the on-demand world, and Coda, a traditional vendor with a 30 year pedigree that has successfully switched to SaaS – it’s a meeting of two worlds – both in terms of technology, but also geographically – Coda is owned by Dutch company Unit 4 Agresso while salesforce is firmly entrenched stateside.

While financial details aren’t being released, the deal is structured around a new entity, FinancialForce.com which is majority owned by Unit4Agresso. This is exciting on so many levels. I spoke with FinancialForce Chief Executive Jeremy Roche, still chipper despite it being 2am in his time zone. Ben Kepes More about Ben here. The Lawyer's Guide to Collaboration ... For example, if you want to attach clueTips to all links with a class of "peanuts," you would simply write in your jQuery code: $('a.peanuts').cluetip();.
