Autism, Vaccines, Epilepsy, and MSG Although epilepsy patients are advised not to eat foods containing MSG, due to their interference with anti-seizure drugs, like lamotrogine and topiramate (both glutamate blockers), MSG is listed as an official vaccine additive on the official government CDC website: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vac-gen/additives.htm We honestly don't understand how public health policy "experts" can say that vaccines have nothing to do with seizures suffered by many children after receiving vaccines with MSG in them. The fact that 30% of children with autism also suffer from epilepsy should be a red flag. http://www.epilepsyfoundation.org/epilepsyusa/yebeh/upload/autismandepilepsy.pdf The fact that many parents with children who regressed after vaccination report seizures shortly after vaccination should be enough to spur thorough investigation.

The annual Malofiej awards, for top graphics in journalism, were handed out last week. The best map of 2010 went to National Geographic for the World of Rivers . Every river system in the world was mapped and scaled by annual discharge. We live on a planet covered by water, but more than 97 percent is salty, and nearly 2 percent is locked up in snow and ice. That leaves less than one percent to grow our crops, cool our power plants, and supply drinking and bathing water for households. Showing everything doesn't always work with so much data, but it does in this case.

A novel map of the internet created by Marián Boguñá and colleagues at the University of Barcelona, Spain, could help make network glitches a thing of the past. Boguñá squeezed the entire network into a disc using hyperbolic geometry, more familiar to us through the circular mosaic-like artworks of M. C. Escher . Each square on the map is an "autonomous system" – a section of the network managed by a single body such as a national government or a service provider. The most well-connected systems are close to the centre, while the least connected are at the edges.
