Sunburst mirror DIY. It has been soooo long since this first post went up and I thought it would be fun to include some updated photos of this mirror and show you how it has been used over the years. Still using it and loving it! Where ol' girl currently lives in our Houston house. Check out my tutorial below so you can make one of your own! Remember the teaser of my new sunburst mirror... Well here she is in all her glory! She's nice and beefy, and has lots of texture. It's hard to tell in these photos (because we haven't had sun outside our windows in DAYS), but she has a really nice shine too. Here's how I did it! I'm certainly not the first to make a wood shim mirror, I've seen several versions around blogland. What you'll need: STEP ONE: Lay out your wood shims to figure out a pattern you like. STEP TWO: Using wood glue, glue the individual shims in your 5 and 7 groupings together. STEP THREE: Once your groups of shims are dry, arrange them back into the exact pattern you want them to be in once finished.

Our Library: Raingutter Bookshelves! Obviously this isn't a treat-related post...but it's still SUPER SWEET! I received SO many comments and inquiries in response to the picture I posted of our kiddos' library on my FB page, that I felt I really should dedicate a full post to the subject ;) We finished our basement this past spring and resolved to make a big part of the open area a playroom. I've been dreaming of reclaiming my livingroom for about 3 years now...so I was BEYOND excited when the space was finally finished! I wanted to have a fun way to organize the kids' toys and make it extra special for them too!
One of the first things to accomplish was figuring out a fun way to display their books. I'm a bit of a book fiend and buy them ALL the time...we've also had library-growing parties (where all the guests bring a gift-book) for each of the kiddos' 1st Birthday Parties...so needless to say, we have books coming out the WAZOO here ;) I'm IN-LOVE with this one from Home Stories A2Z! How to Make a Sunburst Mirror. HELLOmynameisHeather. Crafty - StumbleUpon. Faux Metal Artwork. I am so excited with my latest project. I have been saving paper towel and toilet paper towel rolls for about 2 months now. I finally had enough to do my craft. Here is the finished product! I love the way it turned out! You need some frames, tacky glue, spray paint, paper towels, and toilet paper rolls. Nicholas helped me make the frames. Next I started cutting the rolls into my desired shapes making sure that they were 1/4 inch.
To make the curls I got the papers and rolled them around a pencil. The best part is that the frame is super light and I used the Velcro 3M to hang it up. Linking up to: Rhinestone Tulle Wreath Ivory with Feather Flower by FennThomas. A Little "Ruler" Project and our Give Thanks Pillow. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Ours was nice and busy. We have been working on quite a few projects around the house as well as designing some new Dear Lillie items. We have one new item available this morning, our "give thanks" pillow cover.
Also we have spent some time this past week reviewing things and found some ways to cut shipping costs. We have now lowered all of our domestic shipping charges! One of the new projects we have been working on here was this fun oversized ruler growth chart to measure Lillie and Lola. I saw a great tutorial on the blog 517 Creations for this that was inspired by the Pottery Barn Kids one that is sold out.
Jon and Jason both informed me they didn't like it at all (although now they are taking it back) but I really love it! Sorry for the fuzzy picture, Jason took this one =) I hope you all have a wonderful Monday! Skating the Summer Away | CedarWorks Play Systems: Blog. DIY Decorating: Photo Projects - Martha Stewart. Traditions. I love figuring out new traditions to make with my own little family. I definitely found one for General Conference on Sunday morning.
My sis-in-law (SIL) Dana was telling me about how often she goes to my friend Hannah's blog and tries out her recipes. She was telling me about all the yummy ones she has tried, including the sticky bun breakfast ring and told me I had to try it. So I decided this morning was the best time to make them while I had the LDS General Conference playing in the background.
Let me just say WOW! Delicious! The syrup and brown sugar caramelized while baking, making them so gooey and so so good! My Aubri said while eating her sticky bun, "these are so yummy mom! " If you haven't already, you need to check out my beautiful and talented friend Hannah's blog! **If you aren't on Pinterest yet, please let me know and I'll send you an invite. Here is the recipe with my results in pictures: (hopefully it tempts you to try it!) Sticky Bun Breakfast Ring 3 Tbsp. butter, melted. How to Make a No-Sew Ruffled Christmas Tree Skirt. Plastic Drawer Mini-facelift. Like many of you (I'm sure) I had a set of these cheap plastic storage bins: Clearly it has become a place for junk...I can't believe I even just shared that picture with you guys. Ick. Anyways, I do love how great it is for storing away nick-nacks and other miscellaneous stuff.
But, the clear plastic drawers left too much for the wandering eye to see, and were less than appealing. I decided to see what I could do to spruce it up a bit. I grabbed my supplies - scrapbook paper, ruler, pencil, and x-acto knife: Rather than having everything match, I decided to use a different, but corresponding, pattern of paper for each of the 4 drawers. First thing I did was measure the inside of the drawer, and cut a piece of paper: I then cut a slit in the paper, with my x-acto knife, where the handle is: Next I grabbed my bottle of Mod Podge and a sponge brush: I then coated the inside of the drawer, from the handle down, with Mod Podge, and laid on my paper. As you can see, bubbles and wrinkles happen. A cool kitchen-finds blog - Kitchenisms. Etsy find: Bridbird Happy Monday everybody! Why not warm up to the week with these lovely illustrations from Bridbird. I stumbled across Bridget‘s shop this morning, and found her lovely prints, cards and fridge magnets, all foodie-themed and completely covetable.
My favourites are the spices but I wouldn’t say no to any on my kitchen wall. Photo finds: A Southern Thanksgiving I’m abandoning my usual Friday Flickr update for some lovely food photography today. Home Inspiration: Ode to Aga Though it might surprise you, my dream kitchen doesn’t have a modern, shiny induction worktop, or even a stainless steel gas range. Not that all Aga-bedecked kitchens are cutesy and twee, though. I love the simplicity and retro feel of this kitchen from Living etc. In this room from the same source, the Aga is set into a more traditional nook, though the overall look is still modern.
This Shaker kitchen, found on house to home, is pure country cute. Finally! The Digit Spice Jar is cute and practical. DIY Bathroom Storage. How to Make Fruit Roll ups | A Sonoma Garden. I thought we had used up all of our nectarines in our recent canning spree, but Scott walked in the backdoor yesterday with another basket full (the last of them). Hmmm, what to do with them? I thought I’d try my hand at fruit leather, or fruit roll ups, again. Nectarines are a perfect candidate for making fruit roll ups because they aren’t as juicy as peaches so they dry faster. Plus I like their tangy flavor. I had tried making fruit leather in the past and was never very satisfied with my results, but I think I got it right this time.
Here’s how I did it: Pit the nectarines and place in a pot. Once the fruit reaches a jam like consistency, spread it onto parchment lined cookie sheets. Place in oven and turn the temperature to the lowest setting. Once it’s cooled, roll it up in the parchment paper and slice it into one and a half inch lengths. You can use the sun to dry the leather, but you will need a breathable cover such as cheese cloth to spread over it. Like this: Like Loading... Here is how I made my Christmas tree ornament mobile, it was easier than it looks, promise. The Supplies a 17″ steamer rack from a restaurant supply storeabout 5 feet of lightweight jack chaina small carabiner100 basic ornament hooksone roll, 500 feet, monofilament jewelry string (not the stretchy sort)200 jewelry crimp beads or tubesjewelry crimping tool100 lanyard hooks100 ornaments Note: In the photo above I show earring wire instead of ornament hooks.
I changed that later as I found ornament hooks made it far easier to move ornaments around after they’d been hung. Also, my supplies are based on a 4 foot tall mobile using almost 100 ornaments, you’ll need to adjust amounts if you make one larger or smaller. Creating the Mobile Frame Creating the frame for my ornament tree mobile turned out to be fairly simple. For the top of the mobile I needed something that would allow me to easily secure a lot of hanging points without them sliding around too much. Notes: Why so many hooks and bits?
