Thank goodness the so-called ' guilty men ' who campaigned for Britain to join the euro didn't get their way. Because if they had, we'd now be on a truly scary path towards the blandly named European Stability Mechanism, which comes into effect in mid-2013. Yes, this mechanism sounds perfectly innocuous, but have a look at the video below, made by German campaigners, on the amazingly anti-democratic nature of the body it creates. In particular, it will have the power to compel eurozone nations to give it an unlimited amount of money within seven days of any demand, and it will be exempt from legal action by nation states.
