Latest THE HOBBIT Production Video Takes You Onto The Studio Lot! THE HOBBIT, Production Video #6. The Hobbit Production Video #5 is Here! As if the first trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey weren't enough of a holiday surprise for fans, Peter Jackson has just released (via the film's Facebook page) a brand-new production video from the set, clocking in at nearly 12 minutes and jam-packed with extensive behind-the-scenes footage. Check it out in the player below! "The Hobbit" follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild.

Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news. Ahoy, squirts! Quint here currently writing from the overgrown wilds of New Zealand’s North Island. I’ve been rather secretive about my trip to the southern hemisphere and for that I apologize, but it had to be done.

Here’s the deal. I’m kicking off a new, temporary, regular column that I’m calling An Unexpected Journey because that’s exactly what it is. Calling The Hobbit a prequel doesn’t exactly feel right, though. Case in point, the very first location visited on this trip: Matamata, Waikato, New Zealand – North Island, also known as Hobbiton. Gorgeous, isn’t it? And when I say green I mean GREEN. But we all know New Zealand is beautiful. Wake up time was 5:15am, which barely gave me enough time to get showered and presentable before making the 40+ minute drive from my Hamilton hotel to the location deep in the rolling green hills of Matamata. Once past security I found myself driving along a small dirt and gravel road following signs to crew parking. It was quite funny, actually. ‪THE HOBBIT, Production Video #3 [HD]‬‏ THE HOBBIT Video Blog 2. Peter Jackson has posted another production video blog from the set of The Hobbit, and if you’re at all interested in the filmmaking process you’re definitely going to want to watch it.

Since the production of The Hobbit is set to span 254 days, Jackson has split filming up into three blocks in order to give the cast and crew time to rest, and to give him time to work on visual effects/script tweaks. The first part of the video shows us the last few days of production on block one, where we see some of the actors doing scenes and Andy Serkis directing second unit work. The remainder of the post follows Jackson and Co. around while they do location scouting during the break in filming. Apparently the second block will include a lot of on-location work.

The cast and crew are due back on set September 5th to begin filming on block two. Hit the jump to watch the blog. With shooting on the film set to begin in New Zealand on March 21st, the image comes courtesy of a press conference in Wellington for which members of the cast assembled.

Unfortunately, director Peter Jackson was unable to attend as a result of his recent medical issues. Nevertheless, Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins), James Nesbitt, Richard Armitage, and William Kircher among others were present, leaving us with out first look at much of the cast (albeit not in costume). Elijah Wood, Cate Blanchett, Sylvester McCoy, Saoirse Ronan, and Ian McKellan also star. Here’s the image [from New Zealand's Stuff]: Here’s the synopsis for J.R.R.
