Terra Nova: 10 Burning Questions Answered! October 3, 2011 10:02 AM PDT Fox’s Terra Nova, some 85 million years in the making, finally stomped onto the TV landscape last week, introducing viewers to Jim and Elisabeth Shannon and their too-big brood, as well as Commander Taylor, a member of the very first pilgrimage who now oversees things at Earth’s ultimate gated community. You probably came out of the premiere with some questions, like: Why’d the Shannons have an “illegal” kid anyway? How did scientists know to where/when the cosmic wormhole led? Is bikini-clad Skye bad or just drawn that way? HOW DID SCIENTISTS IN THE FUTURE KNOW WHERE THIS “RIP IN THE SPACE-TIME CONTINUUM” LED? IN 2149, THE LAW SAYS: “A FAMILY IS FOUR.” “I’m not saying that they’re perfect – they’re not, by any means – but they are well-adjusted and highly functioning. A viral campaign has been created to make you want to join the colony. Get the details after the break. I was lead to the LiveTerraNova.com website from a video that was posted to the FOX YouTube channel. The site plays out as a Hub for a lottery for “The Eleventh Pilgrimage”, which is presumably the name of the colony featured on the series.

The first node is an Evaluation Test to see who your group would be, what position would be best for you (Medical Staff for me), and eventually even if your group would make the cut. Terra Nova's Approach to Dinosaurs - TV Preview at IGN. As you've hopefully seen by now, it's Dinosaur Week here at IGN, as we celebrate those gone, but very much not forgotten, creatures that once walked the Earth. If you're like us and can't get enough dino-tainment, then you're in luck, because this fall, a new TV series will feature dinosaurs as part of its scenario. Airing on FOX, Terra Nova tells the story of a group of humans who travel back in time from the 22nd century to prehistoric Earth.

With the planet unlivable in the future and no other options on where to go, these people are attempting to begin all over again in a very literal way – even as they must co-exist with the other inhabitants of the era... As part of Dinosaur Week, I spoke to executive producer Brannon Braga (Star Trek: The Next Generation, 24) about Terra Nova and it's approach to dinosaurs. Yep, that's right, Terra Nova will feature some dinosaurs invented by the writers. Braga mentioned how much he loved dinosaurs growing up, like so many other kids.

What Led Fox to Delay 'Terra Nova' In January, Fox executives gave TV critics gathered for their winter meeting an upbeat appraisal of the network's costly and ambitious sci-fi series Terra Nova. With Steven Spielberg lending the project his dinosaur cred, Terra Nova had already attracted lots of interest on the Internet, with fans panting to get a look at a two-hour preview set for May. But even then, key players on the project suspected that the chances of delivering that preview were not good. And though Fox promoted the series during the Super Bowl in February, the network acknowledged weeks later that it would not launch until fall because its visual effects "require more time to be realized. " But sources involved with the project say the situation was more complicated than that. With more than a dozen executive producers credited on the pilot and an array of writers coming and going, the series returned from its shoot in Australia in December without enough footage to create the promised two-hour opener.

What to Expect From Terra Nova. WC 11: Terra Nova Revealed. Stars Jason O'Mara, Stephen Lang, executive producer Brannon Braga, and executive producer/director Alex Graves came to WonderCon on Saturday to preview their new sci-fi series Terra Nova. The show is set in both the distant future and the distant past where people from a horribly dystopian Earth escape via a wormhole 85 million years into the past where the human race can get a second chance. Lang plays Commander Nathaniel Taylor, a sort of Daniel Boone-Neil Armstrong hybrid whose goal is to help create a new world, to protect the earth and have humanity do things right this time and avoid the mistakes that led to their destruction.

"Welcome to paradise," Taylor says to the new arrivals. (Yes, Lang is aware of the parallels to his big Avatar speech.) But it's not all happy. As the trailer says, "There's no paradise without sacrifice. " There's not only dinosaurs who can get them, but also personality clashes. Fox’s Time Travel Show TERRA NOVA Delayed Again. While Fox had previously announced their big sci-fi show Terra Nova would premiere in May by airing the pilot, Kevin Reilly (President of Entertainment at Fox) has announced that the show has been pushed back until the fall. Here’s his statement: “Terra Nova is one of the most ambitious television series ever produced. The cutting-edge visual effects used to create the world of Terra Nova, which is of massive scope and scale, require more time to be realized.

This aspect of the series is essential, so we are pushing back the special early preview date to give the visual effects team the time needed for their ground-breaking work.” More after the jump: While I haven’t been wowed by the footage, this is still the kind of show that I can’t wait to see. The fact is, networks rarely spend this much time and money producing something this extravagant for weekly television. JURASSIC PLANET: Aren’t the people who sent them back who aren’t going back with them worried about being fixed out of existence? And what exactly are they hoping to achieve by doctoring the past? Why are the people in the present not worried about being unmade by them? BRANNON BRAGA: I feel like we’re at a Star Trek convention [laughs]. That’s a great question. It’s a series premise question, and what they’re hoping to do is deal with the fact that Earth is essentially dying.

Most animal life is extinct. They’re hoping to restart humanity through this time fracture they’ve discovered. Left-to-right are executive producers Rene Echevarria and Brannon Braga RENE ECHEVARRIA: And the great thing about it is that when you wink out of existence, you don’t even know what hit you. STEPHEN LANG: Also, the idea that by going back in the past and doing something automatically changes the entire future is an alternative theory about time. RENE ECHEVARRIA: Absolutely.
