Four New Posters Debut For James Gunn's Super! In the outlandish dark comedy SUPER, James Gunn has created what is perhaps the definitive take on self-reflexive superheroes. When sad-sack loser Frank (Rainn Wilson) sees his ex-addict wife (Liv Tyler) willingly snatched by a seductive drug dealer (Kevin Bacon), he finds himself bereft and wholly unable to cope. But, inspired shortly after by fictional man-made superheroes of lore, he decides to fight back under the guise of a DIY crimefighter, the Crimson Bolt.

With a hand-made suit, a wrench, and a crazed sidekick named Boltie (Ellen Page), the Crimson Bolt beats his way through the mean streets of crime in hopes of saving his wife. Super is set to be released in the US on April 1st! DISCLAIMER: This article was submitted by a volunteer contributor who has agreed to our code of conduct. Think this article is front page worthy? [eventbug id="sxsw2011"]It’s only been 16 hours since his low budget anti-superhero black comedy Super played to an enthusiastically packed house at South by Southwest.

Though pleased by the response, Gunn isn’t one to take a self-aggrandizing victory lap for the little guy. “Superhero movies are just an incredibly fun space to play in,” said Gunn, while poking at his lunch in the corner of a shady Marriott diner. Gunn’s niche indie flick, which opens April 1, had a rougher time taking flight than movies based on popular comic book characters.
