I was actually really looking forward to seeing Costner in the film, this seems like the kind of role that would help his career. The club and ranch are owned by Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Ace Woody is the one who pits the "mandingo" fighters against one another, and has little qualms about mistreating and even killing the slaves who don't measure up.

The writer/director's revenge-driven "Southern" will feature Jamie Foxx as Django, a freed American slave who teams with a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to save his wife from Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), an evil plantation owner. Costner's role will be that of Ace Woody, a henchman of Candie's responsible for training the slaves to fight. Samuel L. Jackson is also attached to star. A recent tweet from Jeff Goldsmith, states that Tarantino has convinced DiCaprio to play the role of Calvin Candie, the villainous slave owner in the film. Goldsmith is the host of the podcast series "Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith" so it is highly likely that he has enough connections to know what he's talking about. I never like to read a script for a film before it's released, unlike the many people that have.
