I often read comments and emails from people who talk about liking or wanting to make a dish but they can’t “because my significant other doesn’t like [insert ingredient]!” I have to admit, I am often perplexed. If they want to eat it, why don’t they just make it anyway? But then I look at my own cooking repertoire, and I get it. It’s enough of a pain to make one dish some nights after a long day of work, but to make one only one of you wants to eat?
There’s no logic in it. There is only one chicken salad in the entire world that I like, and my other half? But I drew the line last Thursday. So, if your ideal salad sounds like my ideal salad, come, pull up a chair, sit down next to me. Winter Fruit Salad with Pomegranates. Goat Cheese Salad with Raspberries and a Raspberry Dressing — Recipe - Creative Culinary. There is no irony that I should be party to a Goat Challenge one day and then be dying for this salad the next. It’s been on my mind for awhile and then the purchase of an abundance of raspberries sealed the deal. I knew that I would be making this dressing with half of them. It was one of those beautiful moments of having all of the necessary ingredients on hand when reminded of this fabulous salad; my personal salad trifecta of goat cheese, sliced almonds and fresh raspberries that has such perfect elements. So simple, so beautiful and so very good. I love the blend of tastes and textures with the soft cheese that is baked with a crispy coating of almonds and then drizzled with a sweet/tart raspberry dressing. As I continue to make some of my favorite recipes that I long ago started putting on a website and am now transferring to this blog, I’ll do a search and see if they are from the usual suspects.

Photo by Maren Caruso yield Serves 4 to 6 If the idea of tomatoes and watermelon together sounds odd to you, this dish will be a revelation. A few weeks ago, a commenter (hi, Kate!) Tipped me off to the Avocado Salad with Carrot-Ginger Dressing in Gwyneth Paltrow’s GOOP newsletter. Yes, that Gwyneth Paltrow, from Duets! She has a newsletter dedicated to “nourishing the inner aspect” which I have to be completely honest, I have no idea what that is and hope that doesn’t mean I don’t have one.
I’m also not convinced that I’m full of impurities and toxins, thus I’m not really into cleanses and detoxes she discusses in this newsletter and I’m understandably suspect of borderline-starvation fasts that promise a quick shedding of holiday excess. But I really love a good avocado salad. And my husband thinks that carrot-ginger dressings are pretty much the best thing ever. He always talks about one he’d get in college from a place called Around the Clock (it is now a Japanese bakery, next to St. And he’s right, it is pretty awesome (thanks, Gwyneth!) If you are not a fan of grapefruit this is also great with oranges or you could even do a combination. Let's talk about quinoa pronounced (KEEN-wah). Almost exactly one year ago, my back was so bad that I took three months off work. I considered back surgery, and really struggled with what it meant to be unable to do the work I’d done my entire adult life. While I was off work, I also had a cooking accident, which almost cost me a fingertip. It was a rough patch to say the least. A few weeks ago, while getting ready to have my friends Lani and Tom for dinner, something snapped in my back.
I acted fast this time, going on steroids, getting an epidural shot right away and doing pilates at home as well as my physical therapy exercises that I’ve become all-too familiar with. Then came another cooking accident- this time a burn from hot butter and spices, stretching from my neck to my solar plexus. Worse than the pain, is the fear. I keep thinking of my friend Michael Procopio. Leave it to Mr. It turns out, another of my friends and fellow bloggers has been struggling. The thing is. Bangkok Street Food's Green Papaya Salad.
