PureScale administration commands. What is the DB2 pureScale Feature? The DB2 pureScale Feature for Enterprise Server Edition (DB2 pureScale Feature) on IBM Power Systems™ incorporates PowerHA™ technology to deliver levels of database scalability and availability unmatched on UNIX® or x86 systems. The DB2 pureScale Feature is designed to grow your relational database to whatever capacity your business requires, and it is very easy to deploy.

The tightly coupled components that make up the DB2 pureScale solution include: DB2 members (at least two) on AIX®PowerHA pureScale server (known as the CF)High-speed communication network, such as InfiniBandIBM Tivoli® System Automation for Multiplatforms (Tivoli SA MP) softwareIBM Reliable Scalable Clustering Technology (RSCT) softwareIBM General Parallel File System (GPFS™) software DB2 pureScale Feature addresses capacity and availability issues by providing an easier way to scale up or down, and making sure that the entire database is always available. ARMONK, N.Y. - 09 Oct 2009: IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced a new software technology called DB2 pureScale, running on IBM Power Systems, that helps clients increase their database transaction capacity while reducing the risk and cost of growing their IT systems. Jointly developed by the IBM Toronto Software Lab and Power Systems Lab in Austin, TX, the new DB2 feature delivers the continuous availability and virtually unlimited computing power required to meet growing business demands.

The design of pureScale, based on the architecture and 15 years of proven experience of DB2 on System z, reflects the strengths of IBM software technology optimized for Power Systems. As the amount of data continues to grow, industry segments are poised to take advantage of IBM's economical and efficient approach to scaling capacity -- without forcing customers to overspend on excess hardware and software. DB2 pureScale will initially be available on Power 550 Express and Power 595 systems in December. PureScale Homepage. DB2 pureScale on System x® leverages the outstanding business benefits of IBM xArchitecture® and Linux operating system providing a cost-effective, open, reliable and secure IT environment that can easily scale as workloads demand. IBM first introduced this technology on the System z® platform, the undisputed leader in total system availability, scalability, security and reliability and now is the only technology partner to offer this efficient and highly reliable scaling capability across System z, System x, and Power Systems computing platforms.

PureData™ Systems for Transactions uses DB2 pureScale to cost-effectively scale and consolidate transactional workloads. The simplicity of an expert integrated system aids in accelerating deployment, faster time to value and lowering ongoing data management costs. Installing DB2 pureScale environment on IBM System x.
