The classes préparatoires aux grandes écoles (CPGE), commonly called classes prépas or prépas, are part of the French post-secondary education system. They consist of two very intensive years (extendable to three or four years) which act as a preparatory course (or cram school) with the main goal of training undergraduate students for enrollment in one of the grandes écoles. The workload is one of the highest in the world [1] (between 35 and 45 contact hours a week, including written and oral exams). The grandes écoles are higher education establishments. They include science & engineering schools, business schools, and the three écoles normales supérieures but do not include medical institutes or architecture institutes.
Due to their competitive entrance exams, having attended one of the grandes écoles is often regarded as a status symbol on paper as they have traditionally produced most of France's scientists, executives and intellectuals. Admission[edit] Degree[edit] The "Khôlle"[edit] Grandes écoles. The grandes écoles (literally in French "Grand School" or "Elite School") of France are higher education establishments outside the main framework of the French university system. The grandes écoles select students for admission based chiefly on national ranking in competitive written and oral exams. In contrast, French public universities have a legal obligation to accept all candidates of the region who hold a baccalauréat.
Usually candidates for the national exams have completed two years of dedicated preparatory classes, although this is not always the case. The grandes écoles do not have large student bodies (6,000 at the largest establishment, Arts et Métiers ParisTech); most have a few hundred students each year). Notre méthodologie Pour établir notre palmarès des classes préparatoires 2018, nous avons passé au crible les résultats aux concours d'entrée 2017 de plusieurs centaines de lycées dans les filières scientifiques, commerciales et littéraires. Nous avons pris en compte les élèves ayant effectivement intégré les grandes écoles. Ce mode de calcul nous permet de ne pas comptabiliser plusieurs fois des élèves reçus à de multiples concours.
Pour mesurer le taux global d'intégration, établissement par établissement, nous avons rapporté le nombre d'élèves intégrés à l'effectif total dans les classes prépas de chaque lycée. Dans les rares cas où la prépa avait inscrit un nombre d'élèves supérieur à son effectif, nous nous sommes basés sur le nombre d'inscrits. Les données brutes concernant le nombre d'intégrés et leur lycée d'origine proviennent des bureaux des concours des grandes écoles.
