Jesus: “Know me so you can reject me.” | Those Catholic Men. I am sad to say that I attended a homiletics conference not too far from Louisville last week. We were asked during one of the workshops to come up with some images to use for this Sunday’s Gospel (28th Week in Ordinary Time). There were a few good images which came from this, but more than anything it seemed that most of those in the room (including a good number of priests and deacons) were confused by the passage. The confusion at the workshop centered on the man in the Gospel who was kicked out of the banquet. He didn’t have a wedding garment on, so he was kicked out… But why? At one point—in the thick of the confusion—one priest stood up and pointed out to us all, as if he were solving the problem once and for all—that the controversial verses were not in the “short form” of the Gospel. How to Read The conference was, unfortunately, a sad experience for me.

Scripture “points beyond itself to the things it records and manifests” (Msgr. The Word of God More from J.M.E. About Us - Legion of Mary. The Legion of Mary The object of the Legion of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active co-operation in Mary’s and the Church’s work. The unit of the Legion of Mary is called a praesidium, which holds a weekly meeting, where prayer is intermingled with reports and discussion. Persons who wish to join the Legion must apply for membership in a Praesidium.

The Legion sees as its priority the spiritual and social welfare of each individual. The members participate in the life of the parish through visitation of families, the sick, both in their homes and in hospitals and through collaboration in every apostolic and missionary undertaking sponsored by the parish. Every legionary is required to carry out a weekly apostolic work in the spirit of faith and in union with Mary. Drawing its inspiration from the True Devotion to Mary, as taught by St. The basic unit of the Legion is called a praesidium, which is normally based in a parish. St. Leo the Great. Reading 1, Daniel 5:1-6, 13-14, 16-17, 23-28 1 King Belshazzar gave a great banquet for his noblemen, a thousand of them, and, in the presence of this thousand, he drank his wine. 2 Having tasted the wine, Belshazzar gave orders for the gold and silver vessels to be brought which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the sanctuary in Jerusalem, so that the king, his noblemen, his wives and the women who sang for him could drink out of them. 3 The gold and silver vessels taken from the sanctuary of the Temple of God in Jerusalem were brought in, and the king, his noblemen, his wives and the women who sang for him drank out of them. 4 They drank their wine and praised their idols of gold and silver, of bronze and iron, of wood and stone. 5 Suddenly, the fingers of a human hand appeared and began to write on the plaster of the palace wall, directly behind the lamp-stand; and the king could see the hand as it wrote. 17 Then Daniel spoke up in the presence of the king.
