Commercial Printing

Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black are the colors used in the vast majority of commercial color printing – books, magazines, brochures and more. CMYK color is also commonly referred to as process color. It is a subtractive color model using cyan, magenta, yellow and black inks in color printing. Although theoretically all colors can be produced by cyan, magenta and yellow, printing inks are not totally pure in color and so a black plate is necessary to achieve a true black.

As a matter of fact the "K" in CMYK comes from the word "key", meaning that the cyan, magenta and yellow plates are "keyed" or matched up to the black plate. Should photographers worry about converting to CMYK? The majority of photographers shy away from providing CMYK files. Good RGB to CMYK conversion is both an art and a science, but it is not rocket science.

How to choose the correct CMYK profile When you make a CMYK conversion from an RGB image, you need to decide which profile to convert to. Post-Processing Tips for Beginners. Photoshop black and white conversion tips: the best ways to make mono images

In this tutorial we reveal the best all-around Photoshop black and white conversion techniques to evoke the true magic of monochrome. Most digital cameras on the market today can create black and white images, and in some cases with a range of nice effects, but the best monochrome results are still generally produced by converting a colour image using Photoshop or Adobe Camera Raw. Of course, if your camera allows you to capture Raw and JPEG images simultaneously with the black and white mode enabled, you can have the best of both worlds, a quick monochrome shot and a colour Raw file that you can convert later.

My technique for snowflakes shooting

My main hobby is taking closeup snowflake pictures. Real snow crystals are amazing objects for macro photography, thanks to their beauty, uniqueness and unlimited diversity. Even after eight winters of regular photo sessions, seeing thousands of snowflakes in all their details, i do not get tired to admire new crystals with amazing form or an incredible inner pattern.

Some people think that snowflake photography is a complex matter, and requires expensive equipment, but in fact it can be inexpensive, very interesting and quite easy, after some practice. I capture every snowflake as short series of identical photos (usually 8-10, for most interesting and beautiful crystals - 16 shots and more), and average it (after aligning, for every resulting pixel take arithmetical mean of corresponding pixels from all shots of series) at very first stage of processing workflow.
