Mexico's Independence Day - September 16. In the early nineteenth century, Mexico, with a little influence from the US and France, began talking about a revolt against Spain. Father Miguel Hidalgo from Dolores, Mexico, was a leader of one of the rallying groups. Hidalgo and his officers were planning a revolt for late fall of 1810.

The Spanish people found out about the revolt which led the Spanish Government to order the arrest of Hidalgo and his officers. When Hidalgo found out, he called a meeting at his church. He rang the church bell on the night of September 15, 1810 to call his congregation to mass. Everyone fought together, including the Criollos (wealthy Mexicans of Spanish descent), Mesizos (children born from the marriage of a Spaniard and an Indian), and Indians. Today Mexican Independence Day is a major celebration in Mexico and is bigger than Cinco de Mayo. The actual day of September 16 is similar to July Fourth in the US. John Locke in Ideological Origins of the American Revolution.

John Locke (1632-1704) was an English philosopher and a major influence upon the Founding Fathers. A founder of British empiricism with an unabashed faith in the natural sciences and the rising middle class, Locke embodied the principles of the Enlightenment. In his Essay Concerning Human Understanding (1690), Locke rejected the notion of innate ideas and instead argued that everyone begins with a tabula rasa, or blank slate, and is shaped by his or her environment. This was a concept with radically equalizing implications. Locke therefore rejected Thomas Hobbes's theory that kings rule by divine right; how could they, if everyone was born equal?

Locke also diverged from Hobbes in that he believed that the original state of nature was characterized by reason, equality and independence, rather than chaos, avarice, and savagery. People voluntarily left nature to enter into a society for the sake of mutual protection. The Story Behind a Nonfiction Novel. PETER KREEFT The problem of evil is the most serious problem in the world.

It is also the one serious objection to the existence of God. When Saint Thomas Aquinas wrote his great Summa Theologica, he could find only two objections to the existence of God, even though he tried to list at least three objections to every one of the thousands of theses he tried to prove in that great work. One of the two objections is the apparent ability of natural science to explain everything in our experience without God; and the other is the problem of evil.

More people have abandoned their faith because of the problem of evil than for any other reason. It is certainly the greatest test of faith, the greatest temptation to unbelief. And it's not just an intellectual objection. The problem can be stated very simply: If God is so good, why Is his world so bad? The unbeliever who asks that question is usually feeling resentment toward and rebellion against God, not just lacking evidence for his existence. §. On February 6th, 1765 George Grenville rose in Parliament to offer the fifty-five resolutions of his Stamp Bill.

A motion was offered to first read petitions from the Virginia colony and others was denied. The bill was passed on February 17, approved by the Lords on March 8th, and two weeks later ordered in effect by the King. The Stamp Act was Parliament's first serious attempt to assert governmental authority over the colonies. Great Britain was faced with a massive national debt following the Seven Years War. American Revolution: Prelude to Revolution. 1763 - The Proclamation of 1763, signed by King George III of England, prohibits any English settlement west of the Appalachian mountains and requires those already settled in those regions to return east in an attempt to ease tensions with Native Americans. 1764 - The Sugar Act is passed by the English Parliament to offset the war debt brought on by the French and Indian War and to help pay for the expenses of running the colonies and newly acquired territories.

It doubles the duties on foreign goods reshipped from England to the colonies and also forbids the import of foreign rum and French wines. 1764 - The English Parliament passes a measure to reorganize the American customs system to better enforce British trade laws, which have often been ignored in the past. Algebra Problem Solver. Order of Operations. The order of operations is a very simple concept, but is vital to correctly doing math. It is simply the order in which you should perform certain operations (like addition) to get the right answer. Take this equation: If you were to simply solve from left to right, the answer would be incorrect. Let's do that now. 14 + 6 = 20. Divide that by 5 to get 4. The order of operations will allow you to solve this problem the right way.

A popular way of remembering the order is by putting together the first letter of each word: PEMDAS. Let's try solving that equation again, this time using PEMDAS. Step 1) Parenthesis. The whole idea is just to follow the rule: PEMDAS. What if you are given an equation like the one below? Remember, the first step is Parenthesis. By now you should have a basic understanding of the order of operations.
