Researchers create car that can be steered by thought. The case for outlawing the practice of talking on cell phones while driving got a boost from the latest breakthrough from the innovation labs of Freie Universität Berlin.

Researchers create car that can be steered by thought

German scientists working there have installed a car with new technology that can read the driver's brain waves, thus allowing the car to be steered entirely by thought, reports Science Daily. Needless to say, you probably don't want to be distracted while driving this vehicle. The technology is made possible by commercially available sensors for recording electroencephalograms (EEGs), which are basically the electrical outputs your brain produces while it thinks. Scientists then trained a computer program to distinguish the particular electrical patterns that are produced when a person thinks certain commands, such as "left," "right," "accelerate" or "brake.

" Once the training was complete, it was time to take it out for a spin in the real world. Also on MNN: How Products Are Made. Digital Economy Act's anti-piracy measures is delayed. 26 April 2012Last updated at 08:08 ET The Digital Economy Act seeks to curb rising rates of online piracy The controversial piracy law, the Digital Economy Act, has again been delayed, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport has confirmed.

Digital Economy Act's anti-piracy measures is delayed

The measures, such as letters to suspected illegal downloaders and potential disconnection, will not be enforced until at least 2014. Since being passed at the end of the Labour administration in 2010, action has stalled due to legal challenges. The delay was welcomed by the Internet Service Providers' Association (Ispa). Under the Act, letters sent out to apparent illegal file-sharers would offer advice on how to prevent such illegal activity. Serious repeat offenders risk facing measures that limit, or even cut off, internet connection. ISPs have criticised aspects of the Act, suggesting it would unfairly force them to police user behaviour on the internet. It’s one of Silicon Valley’s greatest pink elephants: Why doesn’t Google offer a cloud storage service to rival Dropbox, Box.net, or Microsoft’s SkyDrive?

Google Drive: Dropbox killer or mediocre also-ran?

Google has the most internet-connected servers in the world, the largest combined storage of any web company, and already offers photo storage (Picasa), document storage (Docs), music storage (Music), but for some reason it has never offered a unified Google Drive. According to people familiar with the matter, however, our wait is almost over: Google’s Hard Drive In The Sky is coming soon, possibly “within weeks.” (paywalled) Feature-wise, it sounds like Google Drive will be comparable to Dropbox, with free basic storage (5GB?) Scientists Discover The Oldest, Largest Body Of Water In Existence.

Scientists have found the biggest and oldest reservoir of water ever--so large and so old, it’s almost impossible to describe.

Scientists Discover The Oldest, Largest Body Of Water In Existence

The water is out in space, a place we used to think of as desolate and desert dry, but it's turning out to be pretty lush. Researchers found a lake of water so large that it could provide each person on Earth an entire planet’s worth of water--20,000 times over. Yes, so much water out there in space that it could supply each one of us all the water on Earth--Niagara Falls, the Pacific Ocean, the polar ice caps, the puddle in the bottom of the canoe you forgot to flip over--20,000 times over. The water is in a cloud around a huge black hole that is in the process of sucking in matter and spraying out energy (such an active black hole is called a quasar), and the waves of energy the black hole releases make water by literally knocking hydrogen and oxygen atoms together. The new cloud of water is enough to supply 28 galaxies with water.
