Jamin Warren saw a problem with video game conferences. They only addressed the needs of two groups of people: those who consume video games and the developers who make them. As the co-founder of the print and digital publication Kill Screen , Warren says his goal was to explore the intersection between culture and games, and how they influence each other. "We feel like games have have a lot to teach culture, and culture has a lot it can teach games. All of these things have their corresponding pieces inside the world of games," Warren said. "I was frustrated with what I saw as not enough cross-pollination between the two."

Proof number 1 … or am I just a lousy networker? I was so busy trying to QR scan a conference member’s badge at VOV that I didn’t even look her in the eye when I said hello… this lasted a very long and afterwards-embarrassing 2 minutes or so.

Social media was once described as a professional cocktail hour —a way to connect, share, and interact with others beyond the confines of your cubicle. But now, it feels more like an epic college kegger; the kind where you find yourself wandering in a sea of red cups, the clamor of rowdy partygoers drowning out any real conversation and eliminating the chance to forge relationships that don’t involve 3 AM tacos. So, how do you bring that party back down to a reasonable size, and actually connect with people you want to talk to?
It's bad enough having to relearn favorite programs every time an upgrade comes along, worse learning to use totally new programs when you break down and buy them.
I have an old friend from grad school whom I haven't really seen much since then - although these days we are connected, inevitably, via Facebook. An author and university professor now, my friend teaches undergraduates somewhere in the middle of the country. Lately on Facebook she has been sharing long form posts about her life and passion as a teacher, reader, and writer. She muses on writer's block.

I have been experimenting with social media usage in training and I’m quite happy with the results. This blog post explains what results to look for in your own usage of SoMe as a trainer. There are 3 main things to bear in mind: Traffic (amount of activity) = the level 1 SoMe measure If you ask training participants to do something via a SoMe platform, it is important to look at the amount and type of traffic you get. This could be compared to Kirkpatrick’s L1 learning measure: reaction. For example, I have used LinkedIn to create a group of people interested in Leadership.
