Le Global Social Business Summit a réuni à Vienne, du 9 au 12 novembre, 500 entrepreneurs, financiers, représentants d'institutions gouvernementales, universitaires, étudiants, venus de 56 pays, autour du "social business ". Pourquoi ce "think tank" est-il intervenu une semaine après le G20 ? Le monde traverse un moment clé de son histoire, l'euro une crise existentielle. Or, si l'Europe ne parvient pas à sauver l'euro, elle va entraîner l'économie mondiale dans la récession. Dans les pays de l'OCDE, le chômage avoisine les 10% en moyenne ; en Espagne, près d'un jeune sur deux est sans emploi, la Grèce suit la même tendance, alors que la France et le Portugal sont autour de 20%.

European Union (EU) Commissioner for Social Affairs and Inclusion Laszlo Andor firmly believes that social business will significantly contribute to creating a more inclusive EU. The EU on November 18 will hold a conference on social business to discuss its implications on the EU. The event is expected to bring together over 800 participants from businesses, civil society, and public- and development-sectors. Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, founder of the business concept, has been invited to be the keynote speaker at the programme in Brussels, the Belgian capital, a press release from the Yunus Centre said. Noted personalities including British Prime Minister David Cameron, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou and World Bank Chairman Robert Zoellick are set to attend the conference.

Nobel laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus yesterday said information technology should be used to expand social business.He made the observation in a public speech at the third Global Social Business Summit in . Prof Yunus also emphasised social business and urged different companies to come forward in this respect.“Nowadays everybody holds the genie of Aladdin in his hand. In the story, the genie emerges with the touch of the hand… The genie is the cell phone having internet connection,” said Dr Yunus.Citing an example, he noted that a cell phone enables a pregnant woman to know about the condition of her unborn child only by answering some questions through it.Vienna Human Rights and Development Minister and Acting Health Minister Dr. Fatima Al Balooshi has reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to human rights. Dr Al Balooshi was speaking on the sidelines of the second session of the Global Social Business Summit, being held in Vienna, Austria, under the theme “NGOs and the political framework for social business”.Dr Al Balooshi outlined Bahrain’s strides in promoting human rights during the reign of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. She cited the establishment of the Human Rights Foundation, the Human Rights Ministry, the issuance of key legislations and the ratification of UN human rights covenants.

Prof Yunus tells Vienna Social Business Summit Nobel laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus yesterday said the poor people of Bangladesh were like Bonsai, who have been stunted by oppression. But they have the ability to grow if they are given the opportunity. He was addressing the concluding session of the third Global Social Business Summit, hosted by Germany-based Grameen Creative Lab at the Congress Centre in the capital of Austria. Prof Yunus said the government’s job in a country is like that of the conductor of an orchestra.
