You need to look at what the broader architecture requirements and needs are.

In essence what the use of rapid marts will instroduce is just another source of data to report your SAP data from. So you will have R3 and BW on SAP side. Both of which can be reported off using the SAP integration Kit. Implementing the Rapid Marts - yes, a quick way to get data out of R3 and get your reporting going - will introduce a SQL or Oracle environment that will need additional maintenance and support as there is the ETL (Data Integrator) component as well as the universes. If in your organisation you are using SQL or Oracle as sources of data, then I guess the Rapid Marts are ok, however, if you plan to use BW and SAP as you primary sources, I would not really consider the Rapid Marts.
