http://delight-blog.com/ The following recipe is to make a big batch of applesauce or compote, as it is also called. It is a good recipe for getting rid of apples if you have too many on the tree, you picked too many at the patch or they are beginning to rot! Or, maybe you live in an apartment like me and the apples are taking up too much space. Practical reasons aside, it is a good idea to make a big batch of this sauce. It is very easy to make, but also very labor intensive for the rate at which the final product dissapears. Anything that is labor intensive should remind you of an economics class, enough should be made so that the finished product lasts longer than the time spent in preparation!

Vegan Score: exposing Seattle's vegan goodies

http://www.veganscore.com/ I try to get out of the Seattle city core once in a while, but believe me when I say that I haven't been to Renton (just 15 minutes South by car) in years . My suburb avoidance snobbery ends today: because I have discovered Blossom Vegetarian - a 95% vegan*, totally authentic Vietnamese restaurant in the little towny part of Renton. Anyone who remembers the handmade vegan faux meats that used to be at Moonlight will be happy to know that Blossom has all of that and more. Voracious reported that Hue Pha, the Buddhist nun who used to be the main chef at Moonlight, is the talent behind Blossoms crazy amazing menu. This isn't your average hole in the wall and it is about 100 steps above the average Vietnamese joint in terms of ambiance, hygiene, service, and variety of flavors. This is a restaurant where you could take a date, have a birthday party, or impress your non-vegan family.

http://www.flavorvegan.blogspot.com/ UPDATE: Today I talked with Greg, the CEO, and Andre from Daiya cheese and I left our conversation feeling the company is in the process of taking appropriate measures to resolve the hurtful video posting on facebook and make sure situations like this do not happen again. I will be sure to blog about follow through of these measures and feel very confident that the company is sincerely good and will remedy the situation. Daiya cheese just posted a video on their facebook page titled “Being FAT is now illegal in Japan” and then asked, “Should this be adopted in North America?” People have been commenting like mad, both upset and agreeing.
Welcome to another installment of My Family’s Favorite Recipes! If my daughter had her way, we’d eat pasta at every meal. Lasagna, mac and cheese, chili mac–she’s not picky, she’ll devour any of them. http://www.networkedblogs.com/blog/fatfree_vegan_kitchen

I think we've discussed this before. My friend Malinda has a real knack for making salads. Remember the shaved fennel beauty in Super Natural Every Day? That was hers. We were at her house for dinner the other night and she made a broccolini salad I parked just to the right of my wine glass. Must have had three servings.

I am back home from New York now, after my father’s memorial service last Sunday and an all-too-short Itoh sisters’ reunion. We got home late last afternoon, glad to be back, very tired after a long flight followed by a short one and a 2 plus hour drive.

The James Beard Foundation has just published their extensive list of semifinalists for 2012 . There are dozens of names listed in every category. My name was on that list last year. It was a cause for great excitement and anticipation. While I didn't make the nomination list, being a semifinalist is enough to put on a resume and feel proud of.
JustJenn and I went to David Schat's Bakery in El Segundo, CA. El Segundo is one of the South Bay beach cities, between Manhattan Beach and the LAX airport. If you've ever driven up to Mammoth, you may have visited Eric Schat's Bakery in Bishop...my parents always bring home Sheepherders bread. Each one of the Schat's Bakery's are independently owned and operated, but they have a long history of Dutch baking.
