Brutalism in Ruins: Exploring Casa Sperimentale, Italy’s Lost Architectural Relic. As far back as the 18th century, people have been fascinated with ruins as picturesque compositions, but our collective obsession with the shells of forgotten architecture is not limited to quaint abbeys, run-down warehouses, and rural cottages.
In the town of Fregene on the outskirts of Rome, Italy, photographer and urban explorer Oliver Astrologo has been documenting a very different kind of deteriorated building: architect Giuseppe Perugini’s Casa Sperimentale (experimental house), a wild, eclectic ode to Brutalism that is slowly crumbling away on a wooded plot near the coast. The architect built the house in the late 1960s as a way to explore ideas pertaining to form and space at a 1:1 scale.
Perugini passed away in 1995, and, for the past 20 years, the house has been left to deteriorate, steadily overwhelmed by plant life, and vandalized with graffiti. Hoekstra can draw a hand with people as fingers, a sea turtle whose shell is a ship an owl with book wings and other bizarre combinations only with his meticulous pencil work. His detailed illustrations are truly a fascinating study of contrasts and strange connections between living creatures and inanimate objects, biology and mechanics, organic and man-made elements. If you take his drawings to be playful, humorous or even disturbing, maybe you will agree that Hoekstra belongs to a very creative kind of artist. In his illustration of a whale emerging from a submarine that doubles as a banana, Hoekstra can even blend those three different forms together. Body Painted Woman in the Infinity Split Installation. True artists must find a creative outlet no matter what the circumstance—including times of war.
Thanks to the creative passion and steady hand of then 21-year old soldier Victor Lundy, we have a breathtaking visual record of World War II, in the form of documentary sketches. For Lundy, “drawing is sort of synonymous with thinking,” which means we are left with an intimate archive of sketches that unfold one soldier’s experience fighting on the front lines. Lundy was studying architecture in New York when, enthralled with the idea of rebuilding a post-war Europe, he enrolled in the Army Special Training Program. By 1944, with D-Day looming, the Army needed reinforcements, which meant that young Lundy would be thrown into the infantry.

Fluxus Movement, Artists and Major Works. "In Fluxus there has never been any attempt to agree on aims or methods; individuals with something unnamable in common have simply naturally coalesced to publish and perform their work. Perhaps this common thing is a feeling that the bounds of art are much wider than they have conventionally seemed, or that art and certain long established bounds are no longer very useful.
" Synopsis Fluxus was a loosely organized group of artists that spanned the globe, but had an especially strong presence in New York City. George Maciunas is historically considered the primary founder and organizer of the movement, who described Fluxus as, "a fusion of Spike Jones, gags, games, Vaudeville, Cage and Duchamp.
