Personalized Message Valentine Arrow. DIY Houses by Night » Fellow Fellow. Ready for a bit of DIY love? :) A little town at night.. isn’t it sweet?! There are a few tricks to making this DIY a success, all to do with finding the perfect image. 1. What you’re looking for is a picture of a house/castle/building that’s taken front-on (perspective works, but not as well). 2. 3. 4. 5. I was lucky enough to have found some old photo books at a market in Germany that hold some of the coolest black and white photos from the War era.. perfect for a project like this one! Here’s what you’ll need: **Note: Use only Battery powered tea lights !

Step 1: You want to start cutting and finish cutting at around the same height on either side of your picture. Step 2: Trim away any other areas you don’t want, but don’t trim the sides yet. Step 3: Using your Xacto knife and a cutting mat, carefully cut out any windows you want the light to shine through. Step 4: Wrap the image into a cylinder (size is up to you) and sticky tape it together. **Note: Use only battery powered tea lights! 21 Very Creative, Funny Baby Announcements - Snappy Pixels. Lil' Man Onesie Freezer Paper Stencils | The Alison Show. Well it’s about time I start making things for this lil’ man…right?!

And so I rustled up some tiny onesies, I believe these are all the Gerber ones, and made a few designs to stencil on. I totally borrowed ideas from some designer kids clothing I love, though I try to never just rip something off, but for that reason SPECIFICALLY I ask that if you use these stencils DO NOT sell things made from them! That’s the case with all my stuff, but especially in this case! So hop on through for the tutorial, and for the free stencils! I’ve don’t quite a few tutorials with freezer paper stenciling, so for the most part I will refer you to them! But I wanted to share a method for tracing that I use that is SUPER fast! See my diagram below: If you print your stencil on card stock you will be able to use the same print out to trace 3-4 freezer paper stencils. I always use Tulip Soft Fabric Paint.

Freezer paper is available at the grocery store or the craft store. This lil “puppy” is Gigi’s favorite. Repurposed Cot. Recently our little Squeak made the transition from the cot to her first big girl bed. I dutifully moved the cot into our study waiting to be dismantled and either stored or passed on, but kept finding reasons not to do it. The thing is, I'm certain there will be no more babies for us.

Kind of certain. OK, 99.99% certain. But every time I passed the study and saw our empty cot looking back at me forlornly (it really was) I'd procrastinate a little bit more. . * baby cot with a removable drop side * mdf/particle board cut to mattress size * blackboard paint Our drop side had already been removed so all I had to do was adjust the base to the highest newborn setting. I cut two sheets of thick mdf to fit snugly into the mattress base to provide a table top. It was then easy to use hooks and suction hooks to create storage on the cot sides.

On the left hand side we hung Bubble's whiteboard for doing her therapy homework using 3M removable hooks. Sew & Tell: Totoro Costume | you and mie. **The Totoro Costume is NOT currently for sale. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I am not taking orders for costumes at this time. There may be a pattern available for purchase or costumes in the future, so please check back here at the blog for announcements.

THANK YOU!!! ** *UPDATE: Since this post has been getting a lot of views, I figure I should at least add one photo of the finished hood. This post was published with photos from her first fitting and after these were taken, I decided to add the whiskers and the leaf. This year, I really wanted to make Yuki’s costume, but we could not decide for a long time what she should be. Well, I finished most of the costume EARLY this year (meaning not the night before or morning of) and I’m a little unsure of how I feel about it. I’m actually so impressed that I was able to get these pics of Yuki.

So in case you don’t know who Totoro is, he is a character from a Japanese animated movie, となりのトトロ or My Neighbor Totoro. So cute, right?! Related. Bunny jars for Easter. DIY child swing. Welcome to another installment of belly + baby! Today I’m sharing a pattern for ruffled diaper covers. I made a basic diaper cover for the new baby and then realized it was too plain!

So, I added a ruffle on the top edge and I’m totally in love! These diaper covers are so fun to make, I’ve already made a short stack of them! You can never have enough diaper covers, right? Let’s get started: Materials:*quilting weight cotton*skinny elastic**Free pattern for 0-3 months! If you’re in the market)A few measurements:*ruffle strip: 40″ by 3″*elastic for top*: 13″*elastic for legs*: 8 1/2″ each *You might have to adjust this based on the stretchiness of your elastic or the width of the baby’s legs/belly. Cut out your pattern pieces and ruffle strip. Sew the front and back together, right sides together, at the sides and crotch. Sew two rows of baste stitching through the top edge of the strip, about 1/2″ away from each other. Sew around near the edge to create a casing for elastic. Miss Make: Tutorial: Happy Raincloud Mobile. A few weeks ago I got a really exciting email. I had been selected to participate in the Scribble Shop challenge. It's kind of like 'Iron Chef' for crafty bloggers, except I did it in my living room, and there were sadly no dramatic sound effects.

They sent me a box filled with assorted craft supplies with one instruction: make something. When my box arrived I eagerly ripped it open to discover: - stick-on felt shapes I really liked the glass marbles because they looked like little dewdrops. I'm a sucker for greenish hued glass anyway so I knew I wanted to use those. And the little dewdrops were going to be the sparkly raindrops. I know people usually complain when it rains but personally I love the rain, it makes me feel calm and peaceful and happy inside.

From the above list I used Mod Podge, the glass marbles, the stick-on felt, and popsicle sticks. And here's what I did! First I crocheted all the little gold raindrop nets. [NOTE: If you don't know how to crochet, don't fret! Pull tight. DIY Moccasins for Children. Finding cute shoes for babies and toddlers can be hard sometimes. I'm always on the lookout for adorable footwear, but often I'm unwilling to pay the high price for something I know my kiddos will only wear for a season or two. I came across this tutorial last year for felt baby shoes, and realized I could slightly modify this pattern for kid's moccasins made from leather scraps!

1. To create a pattern for your moccasins, trace around an existing pair of shoes. Tips: *Because you are sewing with a machine and flipping them right-side-out, make the toe of your shoe extra wide. *Painting the bottom of the shoe is best for babies who don't walk. *For any trim you may want to add, use a Crop-A-Dile tool. *If you are new to sewing leather, you may want to check out this post on tips for sewing leather. *If the top part of your shoe is a bit large you can insert a pleat at the back and tie it tight with a leather cord. I've been making these sweet little shoes for every little one I know.

Thrift Store Thursday: Sock Monkey Baby Costume. Oh....my....goodness. Eloise is soooo cute. How did I get such a cute baby? I just want to bury my face into her cheeks. And I love the way she smells. And her hair is so soft. Okay. Okay. With Eloise being so little around Halloween I realized that this year was possibly the only time in my life when I would be able to sew a cute sock monkey costume. Eloise is so little that I thought maybe I could sew a couple Fox River Mills socks together. I then used an infant pajama pattern, tweaked it a bit and came up with this. Stay tuned tomorrow for ANOTHER Halloween costume! Turn a Baby Dress into a Bubble Romper. I know some of you like to sew but get a little nervous when you have to cut out your own pattern pieces. No worries, I totally get that.

So sometimes I try and think of things that don’t require as much pattern designing. But still turn out cute. (However, even though you’re nervous about making your own patterns from existing clothing……keep trying it. You’ll get better at it. Promise. More clothing ideas here.) So, while thinking of summer and then thinking of my baby girl………I knew there was an even easier way to make a baby romper. So, this idea is to transform a dress you already have. I know you probably have a whole slew of dresses for your baby/toddler. But, oh my word, what’s more delicious than a bubbled romper? Dresses are sweet on little girls. And there’s nothing too tough about this transformation. (Do snaps scare you? Rompers are perfect for warmer weather. And could possibly be the cutest thing to put on baby (or toddler) while she plays. First of all, you need a dress. Little Man Bow-tie Onsie. Next up in the go-to boy gift is the Little man Bow-tie onsie.

I live a little man with some style, and what says style more than a little bow tie? Since it is attached to the onsie there is nothing to go around the neck of your little one, also no need to wear a formal shirt. This can be made for any age, but I can't resist it for a baby. Also I have a free downloadable pattern for you today so making your bow tie could not be easier! To get started Download the pattern HERE Then cut out the pieces as shown. Start by folding the bottom layer piece in half and sew along the top and side. Then turn the piece right side out and serge or zig zag stitch the raw edge. Then serge or zig-zag stitch the sides of the upper layer. Then fold the piece right sides together and sew along the long edge.

Then turn it right side out and with the seam in the middle, turn the edges in and sew them closed. Then line the two bottom layer pieces up together. Then sew the middle down to the middle of the onsie. DIY Baby Blocks | Domesticated Engineer. First of all I would like to apologize for the long break between posts. After the holiday season we had a whirlwind of activity with our move to Oslo, Norway!

We are now getting settled in our temporary housing so that I have some free time to post about all the Christmas gifts I have made for friends and family. I will post more about our Norway move later this week. A few weeks before Christmas I got the opportunity to be sponsored by MyVinylDirect.com. This was the perfect timing to so all the projects that I had planned on making for gifts. Over the next few weeks I am going to be posting about all of these projects.

I will also be posting to My Vinyl Direct’s blog. The first Vinyl project that I am going to share are the baby blocks I made for two of my cousins’ kids. When little Ben opened this gift he sat and took each one out one at a time. DIY Baby Blocks Instructions Start this project by cutting and prepping your wooden blocks. LRW Creative: DIY Baby Headband and Giveaway! *update Nov. 2011 - this year this headband tutorial was chosen for Babble's Holiday Gift Guide! I am not sure who recommended it but thanks, whoever you are! I'd love it those of you who've made some headbands would link up with some photos, I'd love to see what you came up with ;) Cheers, Tysha. I think I warned you I was going to be adding more than just sneak peeks to my blog? Well, here is the first project I would like to share...a little do-it-yourself project that will make somebody very happy, and undoubtedly very cute! Ever since having a daughter, I have been obsessed with making her little "girly" things.

Which is sort of against my nature, since I was always more the "tomboy" type growing up. But I guess that's what happens when you get a sewing machine for Christmas and then have a baby girl around. For those of you who don't have a baby around, you can also use this tutorial to make a grown-up version. Supplies: Glue Gun & small glue sticks Scissors Felt Here we go: 1. 2. 3. Joyful baby hat with teddy bear ears – Tutorial and pattern. A few weeks a go I decided that I wanted to make Conner a warm hat for our outdoor adventures (not that we actually go outside much when it’s snowing) but he definitely needed something thicker than what he had.

Luckily I have different colors of fleece for projects that I still haven’t had the chance to make, so I used small pieces and made him a cute little hat with teddy bear ears. And as usual I wanted to share a tutorial and the pattern so you can make some too, and keep the babies in your life warm and cozy! The first har I made (when I made this tutorial) was a month and a half a go, so Peanut was only 2 and a half months, I made the hat just like the pattern I’m sharing, but he grew out of it pretty fast, so I made a second one (photo below) adding 1/4″ around the pattern.

Since I made this pattern measuring Conner and not with an actual hat, I’m not sure about the sizes. Now that I’ve warn all of you about the sizing, let’s start making this cute hat!
