Further integration with Facebook played a major part in the rollout of Skype for Windows 5.5 Beta, as the Internet voice service and the social network are now tied together far more tightly with the introduction of new features.
The newest version of Skype lets users access Facebook without having to log in separately. This means you can with Facebook friends by instant messaging, and like and comment on status updates — all within Skype. Other new features in the Skype release include a new call control toolbar with redesigned icons, easier saving of phone numbers in the section labeled “call phones,” and an improved graphics interface when calls are placed on hold. All of this further builds on the October announcement of integration between the leading social network and the top Internet telephony service, when it was revealed that the social network’s news feed would be incorporated into Skype, and the Skype phonebook would include all users’ Facebook friends. Actually, according to sources close to the situation, Facebook and Skype are poised to announce a significant and wide-ranging partnership that will include integration of SMS, voice chat and Facebook Connect. Mobile billing vendor Bango says that it has developed a way of allowing operator billing to work on smartphones when they connect to websites over a Wi Fi connection. Currently smartphone users are redirected to credit card payment instead of placing charges on their mobile phone bill. According to Nokia's VP of product management George Linardos operator billing immediately increases sales by 70% making this a significantly more attractive marketplace. "We have worked hard to make the content buying experience both easy and trusted by opening up our on-bill payment services to our customers. The mobile payments industry was worth an estimated US$25billion in 2008, according to Informa. Bango says that its new Wi-Fi On-Bill payment service gives smartphone and Wi-Fi connected users a fast and convenient way to pay for content and services.
