AA/ Investors. AA/ Our Workers. Clothing manufacturing is a very tough job, but we've always tried to do things differently. In the early days we talked about "sweatshop-free". Though now we talk less, we still continue to provide the same benefits (and more) to our workers. For us "sweatshop-free" was never about criticizing other business models; it was about attempting something new. It comes down to this: not blindly outsourcing, but rather knowing the faces of our workers and providing them the opportunity to make a fair wage. The average sewer with experience at American Apparel is making about $25,000/yr, or $12 an hour. This can be higher in some cases. We also offer parking, subsidized public transport, subsidized lunches, free onsite massages, a program of paid sick leave beginning in 2015, and much more.

We also continue to provide all of our employees and their families with company-subsidized, affordable health insurance ($15/week). AA/ Models. AA/ Legalize LA. Early-stage, high-growth firms have been shown to create the bulk of new jobs in the United States. But who creates all those companies that create all those jobs? Evidently, immigrants play an enormous role. Nearly half of the top 50 venture-backed firms in the country were founded at least in part by an immigrant, according to a new study ' by The National Foundation for American Policy. Expanded to include key management personnel, the portion of the top young companies headed by foreign individuals hikes up to 74 percent. "It's a gamble whether an entrepreneur should stay or leave right now, and that's not how the immigration system should work," Mark Heesen, president of the National Venture Capital Association, said in a statement.

Among those with immigrant founders are Silicon Valley darlings like textbook-rental start-up Chegg, online dating service Zoosk, and online craft marketplace Etsy. Legalize LA. Legalize LA was an activist campaign promoting amnesty for illegal immigrants, propagated through billboards, protests, clothing, advertisements, educational pamphlets, and grass roots support, underwritten by American Apparel.[1][2] Originating locally in Downtown Los Angeles, the company took the campaign national in early 2008.[2] Campaign[edit] Legalize LA was billed as an education and media advertising campaign.[1] According to Dov Charney, Legalize LA was an open alternative to private lobbying.[2] Charney also stated that the cause is part of the core of the company.[3] Choosing to advertise social causes not directly related to the fashion company's product has drawn comparisons to campaigns done by advertisers like United Colors of Benetton and Nike.[2] American Apparel released a line of t-shirts featuring the words "Legalize LA" that were sold in its retail locations.

American Apparel believes that sexuality should be celebrated, not condemned. When California voters passed Prop 8 in 2008, we let our community know we would support whatever stand they wanted to take. American Apparel believes in freedom, expression and equality, things that are inherently condemned in the prohibition of gay marriage. After printing a few hundred Legalize Gay t-shirts for a rally near our factory in downtown Los Angeles, the company received thousands of requests from people all over the world who asked for us to expand it.

With many of our employees and customers identifying as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered, we are a company that is vocal about our support for the protection of gay rights. Scores of our employees were on the frontlines of protests in cities across America, handing out hundreds of Legalize Gay t-shirts to supporters, and putting them in our store windows in protest of violence against gays and discriminatory court decisions.

AA/ shop. AA/ Testimonials. Best Fitting Pants One day I walked into one of your NYC stores to check out the merchandise. I honestly had my doubts about the name "American Apparel" ... is there really quality in anything American made these days? I figured I just had to check it out and possibly get a chuckle out of it. I couldn't believe it - I found the BEST fitting pair of pants I have been able to find in about 25 years!!! Your slim fit is a true slim fit; the fit and material quality are excellent.

It's like these were tailor made for me. Before I found your store, I was on the verge of giving up the idea of ever finding white jeans or cordoroys that I could actually wear and be happy about. For years and years I have looked and not found. At the End of the Day At the end of the day, American Apparel puts out quality product, and despite all of the crazy stuff and copies of Butt magazine, you do make some basic stuff for boring people like me that isn't polluted with big brand names and strange designs.
