Looking to the Frontiers of Social Business « Dachis Group Collaboratory. Recently I’ve been taking a close look at what is coming next in social business. While social media has grown to become standard in just about every company’s business portfolio, it’s just as clear that things are not standing still. The business blogs and customer forums of a half decade ago are still here (and still important), but the larger strategic discussion has moved well beyond them to more transformative thinking, with approaches to match. This week I’ve spent a lot of time looking at one of the next frontiers of social business, the intersection of application software and social networks. As I examined on ebizQ, the next app you use is increasingly likely to be inside a consumer social network such as Facebook or LinkedIn (no solid word yet on how Google+ apps will work.) Social applications are increasingly proving to be an effective way to direct community-based activity into useful directions and social networks are a natural home for them.

Design strategy for the changing web « Dachis Group Collaboratory. Co-authored with Davide Casali We create social tools and systems that work for users, so-called situated software that feels native to a particular context. Social software solutions informed by case studies and driven by a constant focus on the user experience. In a world of rapid technological advancement, we must acknowledge that our interaction with the web has fundamentally shifted. Our access to rich social exchange and powerful analytics is no longer limited to the desktop computer. Nor is it exclusive to a small subset of handheld devices.

How can you refine and expand your current offering? Messaging Messaging is the simplest possible solution for interaction available to mobile users. It is best suited for low-budget situations and for services that provide some sort of news update. Responsive CSS In a landscape of an ever-expanding number of devices, Responsive Web Design is a complete rethink of the role of design on the web. E.g. As the social world advances, consumers are turning more to location-based social networks to showcase their favorite places and redeem deals for checking-in. There have been discussions among Facebook Developers the past few weeks regarding the new features being released for Places and Pages that began rolling out on July 13th.

These features are designed to help brands establish a more localized presence on Facebook, while also making the experience more useful to the Facebook community. However, there are limitations in not providing a custom experience for consumers. These new features will be rolled out to pages automatically and follow the previous set-up of parent-child relationships. Brands will be able to see features of these new releases in 5 areas: Locations Tab: The new locations tab has appeared on main parent pages. Parent-Child Linking: For each Place that is designated as a child page there will be a link under the page name to the parent page.
