Disruptive Payments Network Dwolla Now Provides Users With Instant Access To Cash. Today, online and mobile payments platform Dwolla is launching what may be one of its biggest features yet: instant access to cash.

Via the new opt-in setting called “Dwolla Instant,” users will be able to immediately deposit and send cash without the usual wait times associated with the mobile payment platform – typically a few days. To use Dwolla Instant, users must first enroll in the service, which requires a monthly $3 participation fee. This fee will begin from the day you switch on Dwolla Instant, but can be turned off and on at will, without penalty. Once enabled, you can then send money to a friend, pay a merchant, or deposit funds instantly. You’ll tell Dwolla what the funding source is for that initial transaction, and that will then be tied to your “Instant Balance.” Immediately afterwards, Dwolla will allow you to make the payment via your linked bank account (Dwolla’s preferred funding source). Alternately, you can choose to “pay Dwolla back later,” if need be. Dwolla Will Loan You Up to $500 Instantly.

Dwolla has made a name for itself in the payments space by doing exactly the opposite of everyone else. While PayPal is charging transaction fees and then sticking a debit card fee on top of that, Dwolla avoided the card entirely, and any transaction under $10 is completely free. So how do you make that even more appealing for your users? According to CEO Ben Milne (check out our interview with Milne), you give them instant access to cash, any time that they have an Internet connection. With that in mind, Dwolla Instant was born. Instant is a new feature from Dwolla that gives you instant access to cash. So instead of having to wait for funds to hit your account Dwolla will front you up to $500 instantly, and all it costs is $3 per month. Milne says that there is a $5 late fee if you choose to let the borrowed money float past the end of your statement date, but that’s more akin to a late charge on a rented movie than a punishment method by which Dwolla wants to make money. ➤ Dwolla.

In fact, the network doesn't use credit cards at all -- it links right to users' bank accounts and makes sending money as simple as selecting a friend on Facebook. Now, the startup is launching a direct attack against ATMs. Instant is a new Dwolla feature that launched today. "Whether you’re in a combine, on the streets of New York, walking down the Embarcadero in San Francisco, or stopping in at Mars Café in Des Moines, if you have access to the Internet and access to Dwolla, you have cash," says Dwolla of its new feature. Here's how it works: Using Dwolla gets rid of ATM feeds and the hassle of tracking one down. Here's our Q&A with Dwolla about how the payment network works >>

All transactions under $10 are now free. +1 for small business. - Dwolla. I’m pleased to announce that as of today transactions under $10 carry no fee. I know there has been speculation lately about that fee going up, but the rumor mill can be a dangerous thing Dwolla is hell bent on a core vision and value set: moving money safely, quickly, easily and as cheaply as possible. It’s what has fueled our growth over the last year since going national, and to commemorate the anniversary we’re saying thanks in the only way we know how… by making your life better. Why are we doing this? Three reasons. Small businesses are something we genuinely care about.

We have a soft spot for all these reasons and we want to put a good foot forward to support them in a way that proves we’re not trying to hammer people on little transactions. Dwolla was started because a pain point (the high costs associated with ‘getting paid’) and I refuse to be a standard for a new one emerging. Who do we think this is going to help? How do I get started with this?
