It all started with the invitations. Guests received mini Sesame Street boxes filled with all sorts of goodies to excite them for the party. Today’s tutorial is in preparation for Sister’s third birthday party this coming weekend. the party is loosely a “sesame street” theme with colors leaning more toward the girly spectrum instead of the traditional rainbow scheme. for the favor bags, i whipped up these Big Bird/Cookie Monster shaped crayons. so easy and so fun to color with!

Sesame Street DIY Crayon Favors— Materials: 1. crayons (i used about 9 regular sized crayons to fill two molds) 2. a metal can from canned veggies, or something similar–wrapper removed 3. a large pot of boiling water 4. plastic candy molds (could fit any theme!) Directions: *i sorted my crayons into like colors *peeled all the papers off and broke them into small pieces. then put them into the metal can. i think small batches work better than large ones. i used only 9 crayons per batch and it filled 2 molds. *when cooled, they popped right out and are really cute and fun to give away as birthday favors! The invitations had been sent, the banner and the decorations were up, the hats waited patiently by the cake, and the treat bags were all filled and ready to be passed out.

It was time to party! My son has really enjoyed playing the games on sesamestreet.org, and loves the music from the show, so I tried to model the games and activities from those. The first game we played was based on a Big Bird game on the Sesame website, where Big Bird matches letters to different objects. We used the same basic idea, but to make it more of a party game, I turned it into a treasure hunt. Sesame Street Birthday - The Party Hats. When I went to the dollar stores to find things for the treat bags, I had thought that I would get some cute party hats while I was at it.

But there were no Sesame themed hats to be had. Luckily, since I was starting early, I had time to make my own. And in the end I was happy the stores couldn't help me because I was so tickled with my homemade product! Every time I try to make a party hat, I get stuck and have to figure it out all over again. Documenting this for the blog will, I'm sure, save me a lot of hassle in the future because I can refer to it myself next time. I started by tracing my large mixing bowl on a 12x12" scrapbooking paper. I cut it out, then I cut out a wedge to make it like a yawning PacMan. Then I roll it up into a cone, and staple it closed. Sometimes I'll do something special to the front door, use sidewalk chalk on the driveway, put something on the gate to the yard, or hang things up in the windows. This time I wanted the guests to be greeted by Sesame Street pals as they came up, so I made three characters from poster paper, paint, and glue (my usual art mediums) and put one in each of the large windows at the front of our home. Once they were inside, they found more of their friends from the Street had come to join the party. Ernie and Bert wanted to watch the pinata action that would be coming soon, so they waited downstairs in the playroom. Super Grover flew over the party to watch the fun from a bird's eye view. I found an Elmo trick-or-treating bucket after Halloween on for clearance.
