Using a Qstarz BT-Q1000P GPS travel recorder with a Mac « Shih Tung’s Wordpress Blog

Thanks to the wonders of Google Earth, I managed to get a fairly good fix on most of the more interesting photos I took in North Korea and even posted them on Panoramio . There were still a few places I couldn’t locate, however, and I figured there had to be an easier way than poring over satellite images. I settled on a Qstarz BT-Q1000 Platinum GPS travel recorder not so much because it was the best – there might be better/cheaper options if I were willing to mail order – but because I needed it the next day and I managed to buy it at retail near my office. Overall, I’m pretty satisfied with it. The recorder itself works well – the hardware package is compact and picks up the signal easily. Comparing the tracks on Google Earth, accuracy is good enough, and in any case, I’m not sure whether the error is caused by Google Earth or by the Qstarz. http://stngiam.wordpress.com/2008/12/25/using-a-qstarz-bt-q1000p-gps-travel-recorder-with-a-mac/

Richard's Tech Reviews: BT747 for Mac access to iBlue, iTrek and Qstarz GPS loggers

Summary There is good news and bad news. The good news is that I can add another GPS logger to the Mac compatible list: the MTK-chipset Qstarz BT-Q1000. Using the BT747 software and USB driver software, you can download the logs from the Qstarz. http://scilib.typepad.com/techreviews/2007/12/bt747-for-mac-a.html

Richard's Tech Reviews: Qstarz BT-Q1000 GPS logger review

Summary The Qstarz BT-Q1000 ( available from Amazon.com ) is very well designed. In addition to being a sensitive GPS logger, it also has a Bluetooth mode. Both the packaging and the industrial design show a great deal of attention to detail. The only weak point is the software, which lacks the ability to download or extract GPS tracks from a particular date.
* Get Semsons connected with Mac GPS driver developers, in particular, free units to gpsbabel developers (which has the advantage of being cross-platform, so many users benefit, not just Mac users). * Someone buy Steve Jobs a GPS and get him into geocoding photos. Or convince him to put GPS-compatible mapping in the next generation of iPhone / iPhoto / MacBook / OS X and his reality-distortion strange attractor field will have developers clambering over one another to make their devices compatible. UPDATE 2007-08-15: A question from me about Mac support for GPS loggers has now been posted to Macintouch

Because this is a new site and a few of the early posts have been about the M-241, a fair number of the first visitors are ending up here due to Holux M-241 searches. So I want to cover the M-241 compatibility aspect of HoudahGeo and HoudahGPS first.

Nikon D80 RAW .NEF GPS geotagging workflow on the Mac | trick77.com

I already wrote a few articles about how to use my preferred GPS logging device, the Holux M-241, on the Mac. In this article I’m focusing on the linking process between the GPS data and the photos. This process is called a geotagging workflow. Most of the time I’m taking pictures in RAW mode so the workflow is optimized for this type of images. I’m using a Nikon D80 but the workflow should work with almost any other (Nikon) digital camera like the Nikon D200 or Nikon D300 too. It may all work well with other tools though.

Review: Geotagging software comparison for the Mac | trick77.com

Here’s a review of geotagging tools available as of today (July ’08). I tested all of them personally and tried to come up with a pro & con list on each of them. If you know a geotagging Mac application that’s not included on this list, please drop a comment.
I usually use my windows mobile phone with build in GPS receiver to store the locations where I take pictures. One of the downsides of this is that the phone has to stay on continuously (I just record the whole route which I walk or drive) which drains the battery quickly. Now I found one of the many GPS Logging devices which is the iBlue 747A+ which is capable of storing 125.000 waypoints.

Traceur GPS i-Blue 747 A+ < Avis d'utilisateurs :: PPS

Getting an i-Blue 747 GPS logger to work with OS X | Keys Corner

I bought an i-Blue 747 GPS track logger recently. You can pick one up, new, on eBay for around 40 – 50 Euro. The idea is to use it to tag photos with their position – our cameras don’t have GPS receivers built in, and often when we get back from holiday, its difficult to remember where exactly we took which pictures.
