New plastic bleeds and heals like human skin. A new plastic demonstrated to the American Chemical Society on Monday not only professes to self-repair when exposed to light, but to change color when damaged in a process akin to the bleeding of human skin (Photo: Shutterstock) Gizmag regulars will be well-used to the idea of self-healing materials, and even materials that repair themselves when exposed to light; but a new plastic demonstrated to the American Chemical Society on Monday purports to be the first self-healing material to incorporate a damage-reporting mechanism, almost akin to the bleeding of human skin. "Our new plastic tries to mimic nature, issuing a red signal when damaged and then renewing itself when exposed to visible light, temperature or pH changes," said Professor Marek W. Urban, Ph.D of the University of Southern Mississippi. Urban's plastic contains molecular bridges that span the polymer chains that comprise the plastic.

Acer's tiny USB-powered pico projector capable of 100-inch display – New Tech Gadgets & Electronic Devices. Pico projectors are slowly but surely starting to become quite useful, affordable devices. They are small enough to carry in your pocket, have a power draw low enough to remove the need for a separate power cable, and can produce large projections at HD resolutions. Acer’s latest pico project, the C120 , is the perfect example of this. It is capable of producing a 100-inch display projected at up to 12 feet away. Support is included for 4:3, 16:9, and 16:10 output with resolutions up to 1280 x 800.
As well as being a capable projector, the C120 does not require a power cable. The C120 is listed for $259, but can already be picked up for $229 on Amazon. With pico projectors becoming pocketable devices, we should see competition heat up like it did when video cameras such as the Flip and Kodak Zi8 appeared. Read more at Acer , via Tom’s Hardware.
