TweetDeck : Desktop software that lets people split their tweets into columns, such as @replies, direct messages, groups and keyword searches. Soon, I began to decode its many mysteries: how to find a flock of followers, how to talk to them in a medium that blasts to lots of people at once and how to be witty in very tiny doses. It was designed to be read on a cellphone, though many people read it online, too. Suddenly a lot of non-tweeters are starting to feel left out. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123638550095558381.html

Is Twitter Like Speech or Like Writing? The Answer Is Yes — Tech News and Analysis

http://gigaom.com/2011/06/04/is-twitter-like-speech-or-like-writing-the-answer-is-yes/ Is Twitter like a spoken conversation, the kind you would have with friends and/or strangers in a bar? Or is it more like a written discussion — like online forums or chat rooms used to be in the early days of the Internet? One of the things that can make Twitter hard to define, particularly for new users, is that it can be both of those things at the same time .

http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/how_to_track_the_future_of_the_music_industry.php There is simply nothing like Twitter for being a fly on the wall. People sit at work and tweet about what they're doing. They tweet at night, they tweet in the morning and they tweet a lot on the weekends - find a vein of good tweets from a group of people you want to learn from, watch it over time and the world is your oyster. That's my theory, anyway.

Guy Kawasaki and Robert Scoble have vastly different philosophies when it comes to gathering Twitter followers. Kawasaki puts his bluntly: “My strategy is that Twitter is a marketing broadcast platform, and so the way it gets to be the best platform you could have is to have as many different followers as possible, which to put it mildly, is radically different from most people — who believe they should have a Kumbaya soulful experience with every follower.” Scoble , on the other hand, is more of a quality over quantity kind of guy: “Caring about number of followers is going to take you down a path that’s not very satisfying…Even if you get the numbers, if you’re surrounded by a million [jerks], is that as much fun as being surrounded by a thousand brilliant, fun, great people?” http://mashable.com/2010/11/02/how-to-gain-twitter-influence/

Dare Obasanjo aka Carnage4Life - Competing with Facebook: How Twitter gets it right and FourSquare gets it wrong

Two months ago Nelson Minar wrote a post entitled Stop making social networks, Facebook won where he argues that websites should just treat Facebook as the one true social graph instead of trying to build their own. I agree a lot with what Nelson wrote which some people tell me conflicts with my argument that There will be many social graphs . I thought that the best way to illustrate this seeming contradictory thinking is by comparing two sites that the media considers competitors to Facebook in different ways; Twitter and FourSquare . How Twitter and FourSquare position themselves against Facebook
I got an email recently from someone who was quite put out by my communications style, letting me know in no uncertain terms that they were unsubscribing from everything and anything I had to publish. In the past, that email might have gotten me worked up a bit, but all it inspired in me was a gentle nod of understanding and a reply wishing them well. Here’s why such stuff isn’t important to me any more: I recognize that I have a worldview and style that is unique, different, and most certainly not for everyone. At best, how I see the world work and how I choose to communicate with the world is appropriate only for a very tiny minority of people , a very rare and special kind of person.

News Flash: Twitter Already Is a News Network: Tech News and Analysis «

A minor flurry erupted in the blogosphere today, after Twitter co-founder Biz Stone mused during a Reuters interview about creating a “Twitter News Service,” which he described as a kind of partnership with major news organizations to extract news from the millions of tweets carried by the micro-blogging network daily. A spokesperson for Twitter later posted a message saying the company “no plans for a Twitter news network” and that Stone was simply thinking out loud. Twitter staffer Matt Graves’ response was closer to the point, however; he said the company was not thinking about creating such a news service because “it already exists — it’s called Twitter.”
