Business Process Management (BPM) Definition and Solutions CIO.com

What is BPM? BPM is a systematic approach to improving a company's business processes. For example, a BPM application could monitor receiving systems for missing items, or walk an employee through steps to troubleshoot why an order did not arrive. It is the first technology that fosters ongoing collaboration between IT and business users to jointly build applications that effectively integrate people, process and information. Important components include process modeling (a graphical depiction of a process that becomes part of the application and governs how the business process performs when you run the application), and Web and systems integration technologies, which include displaying and retrieving data via a Web browser and which enable you to orchestrate the necessary people and legacy applications into your processes.
Business process management (BPM) is a holistic management approach [ 1 ] focused on aligning all aspects of an organization with the wants and needs of clients. It promotes business effectiveness and efficiency while striving for innovation , flexibility, and integration with technology. BPM attempts to improve processes continuously. It can therefore be described as a " process optimization process." It is argued that BPM enables organizations to be more efficient, more effective and more capable of change than a functionally focused, traditional hierarchical management approach. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_process_management

Five Predictions for How BPM Will Evolve | Articles & Archives | DOCUMENT Media

As change becomes an increasing constant in the business environment, more enterprises are embracing business process management (BPM) to improve business performance. Increasingly, organizations are pushing BPM efforts beyond their initial focus on structured processes into more challenging, cross-boundary processes that include more unstructured portions. To better manage unstructured processes, which is a more complex style of work, business roles will need to learn how to leverage the interaction of business events, processes and business rules to assist them in responding to changes in their markets. A key theme in our BPM predictions for 2010 and beyond is broader, cross-boundary coordination of resources. http://www.documentmedia.com/ME2/dirmod.asp?sid=&nm=&type=Publishing&mod=Publications%3A%3AArticle&mid=8F3A7027421841978F18BE895F87F791&tier=4&id=C07DB9E68D7345C08851DA723C63F3E4
How often should you change your password? I get asked that question a lot, usually by people annoyed at their employer's or bank's password expiration policy -- people who finally memorized their current password and are realizing they'll have to write down their new one. How could that possibly be more secure, they want to know. The answer depends on what the password is used for. The downside of changing passwords is that it makes them harder to remember. And if you force people to change their passwords regularly, they're more likely to choose easy-to-remember -- and easy-to-guess -- passwords than they are if they can use the same passwords for many years. http://www.schneier.com/essay-328.html

When to Change Passwords

http://isismjpucher.wordpress.com/2010/03/20/gartner-group-predicts-adaptive-process/ March 20, 2010 by Max J. Pucher After posting this, I now realize that I need to thank analyst Janelle Hill (and colleagues) for making their predictions on BPM despite my disappointments with Gartner Group in the past. As a matter of fact, they are now validating my long-term approach despite refusing a briefing on our Papyrus User-Trained Agent for process machine-learning (not analysis) in 2007. Without flowchart design, we were not considered a BPM solution.
