Gaussian Blur Overlays
In this tutorial I'll show you how to do gaussian blur overlays using GIMP. This is an interesting technique that intensifies and saturates the colors in the image, increases contrast, and adds a slightly hazy, "dreamy" feel to the image. The basic technique is to create a duplicate layer in the image, lighten it and blur it, and combine it using a layer mode with the original.

GIMP 1 is the favorite graphics editing program of many designers and graphic artists. It is free and compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux (the two big reasons for its popularity). It has a wide array of features, as well as plug-ins, filters and brushes.This opens the Gradient options box, here you are presented with various options for your gradient. If you click on Gradient a dropdown list of set gradients will appear that you can use for your image. The default is FG to BG (RGB) , which we will use here. Double click on the Foreground colour in the main GIMP toolbar and pick or type in the hexadecimal code (in this case 55aaee in the HTML notation box) for the colour you want in the Change Foreground Colour option box.
