#StopKony #Kony2012 | Full Frontal Freedom. Does the Kony 2012 Campaign Have Any Positive Implications? The Kony 2012 video has drawn unprecendented attention to Joseph Kony, but it offers little depth. Looking at Uganda through Invisible Children‘s lense could have dangerous consequences. Who knows Joseph Kony? Over 100 million people met him recently on YouTube and Vimeo. These platforms feature a video by the American NGO Invisible Children (IC), which has set itself the goal to make Kony so famous that he will inevitably and finally be arrested by the end of 2012. Kony 2012 is currently the most shared video on social networking sites around the world. The video is produced professionally and starts with small, emotional scenes of everyday happiness shared via Facebook and blogs.

There are scenes of the Arab Spring, followed by the film director, Jason Russell, at the birth of his son. An action kit may help to draw attention to Kony, but awareness and attention cannot be the only means of supporting local agencies in a better way. IC responds pragmatically to the situation. Why your non-profit won't make a KONY 2012 | Insights | Communicopia. There's been a lot of ink spilled about the KONY 2012 video, the most successful cause video of all time (and most viral video ever). But I haven't seen a lot of discussion around the campaign that surrounded the video, that is at least as responsible for its success. And while Invisible Children has faced controversy - in my opinion much more than they deserve - I'd rather turn this into a constructive dialogue on how other causes can learn from their incredible success.

In my view, most of the larger, more well known NGO's won't produce a communications piece this successful, unless they radically change their structures. Here are 6 reasons most NGO's will never make a KONY, and some lessons we can take to improve our campaigns for this exciting new world. 1. The founders of IC had spent the last 8 years actually meeting their supporters: presenting at about 3,000 events a year in schools and other hyper local gatherings, and starring in highly personal videos. 2. Let's face it. 3. 4. Free How Is Social Media Affecting Social Movements? Research Paper - Silesky.

How is social media affecting social movements? Social Media is becoming a global phenomenon. With Facebook housing over 845million users and Twitter having 140million users worldwide (Stone, 2012) it is possible that social media is bringing social change to the world. These social media platforms have caused global affects for example the recent KONY2012 campaign which continues to circulate through social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, has dominated the views of millions of people over a short period of time. Since March 5th the video produced by San Diego non-profit Invisible Children has been shared and viewed by more than 100million people worldwide. With the large amount of teenagers that have access to a smart phone the video circulated dramatically and within a few days it had 50million views on YouTube.

Kony 2012 - It s More Than a Video Is a Social Movement - Term Paper - Libyca. KONY 2012: It’s more than a video: it’s a social media movement In this paper, I would like to discuss the elements that made the KONY 2012 the most viral video in the history, with over 76 million views in one week. I will also discuss how social media has played a significant role in this campaign and the elements that promoted the engagement of young people worldwide.

With 76 million viewers in one week, the Kony 2012 campaign designed by Invisible Children has caused a movement. While millions of people have collaborated so far with this initiative by buying 500,00 “Action Kits” and/or sharing this video through their social media, others have criticized it affirming that campaigns like these give young people a false sense of accomplishment and discourage real engagement in social issues (Ojalvo, 2012). But what made this campaign so attractive for 76 million viewers? What made them click? “if you want to get and hold someone’s attention, tell a story” (Weinschenk, 2009, p. 112). Can KONY 2012's Viral Success Be Repeated? 'Half The Sky' Is Taking a Stab. Non-profit Invisible Children's 30-minute KONY 2012 documentary stunned the Internet back in March, as it became the most viral video of all time through the strength of social media users and the almighty hashtag.

Kony 2012 never aired on television nor was it screened in cinemas, yet more than 100 million people have seen the video on YouTube or Vimeo. [More from Mashable: Our iPhones Are Depleting the Earth’s Resources [INFOGRAPHIC]] This week, a two-part PBS documentary Half The Sky is hoping to achieve similar viral success. Though KONY sparked its share of controversy, it undoubtedly changed the rules of intent-driven documentary in the social space.

Half the Sky took notes on Invisible Children's successes. "One element of 'KONY' that was very good was the ground presence, they visited high schools," Liriel Higa, social strategist for Show of Force Productions who worked with the Half the Sky team, told Mashable. A Calculated Campaign Creating a Movement Can Half the Sky Succeed? Kony 2012: A Revolution in Social Campaigns? | Age of Engagement. -- Guest post by Tina Cipara, George Mason University graduate student. “For the first time in history, the people of the world can see each other and want to protect each other. This changes everything.” If you haven’t heard this quote by now, you may be in the minority. Excerpted from the viral documentary, Kony 2012, this is an idea that far transcends one lone social movement. It is a testament to an increasingly technological, global environment that has reinvented the wheel for social change campaigns.

Kony 2012 Movement Officially Dead | EndAllDisease.comEndAllDisease. If the ‘Kony 2012′ movement has done anything for people, it has mirrored back to those who were fooled by the scam, that they are both easily manipulated and not actually thinking for themselves. Perhaps this corporate betrayal in the name of the invasion of another oil-bearing nation will install some vigilance in people. It’s time to take out the trash once and for all, with the declaration that the Kony 2012 movement, is officially dead.

My initial reactions to this movement were very skeptical. After watching the 30 minute documentary I posted a review, which I will repost here for the record: “Kony2012 seems to be yet another example of people just looking for somebody to blame to avoid taking responsibility for themselves. First of all, trying to “stop” something, ANYTHING, promotes violence… so we’re going to use violence to stop violence? Secondly, creating another boogeyman is not the way to solve our problems in this world. There’s my two cents, I don’t support this movement.” Kony 2012: what happens next? | World news. 12.00pm: The Kony 2012 campaign film devised by the American charity Invisible Children has left communication experts and other NGOs awe-struck.

More than 100m people have watched the film, 3.5m have pledged support and the US senate and House of Representatives have both signed resolutions to continue US involvement in the efforts to capture Joseph Kony, the leader of the Lords Resistance Army. The Lord's Resistance Army has issued what appears to be its first response to the "Kony 2012" movement -- a 19-page statement in which it calls Invisible Children a "front organization" acting as a pawn for the U.S. government.

CNN obtained what is believed to be the LRA's first statement in which it calls the "Kony 2012" campaign and video a "clear act of malevolent deception and manipulation of world mass consciousness. " "Indeed, this is not the first time the Invisible Children has been used to play such dirty role," said the statement signed by Justine Labeja, spokesperson for the LRA. "In Uganda, the Invisible Children has been used to cover up on many occasions for the vile acts of the US supported military regime of Uganda in its dirty war activities that its army has carried out against the civil population in Northern, North Eastern, Eastern and Mid-Western Uganda. " On Thursday, Invisible Children released "Kony 2012: Part II - Beyond Famous," a sequel to "Kony 2012.
